Good morning Parents, Caregivers, Cadets and the wider Esperance & Districts community!

Looking for an opportunity for your young person to build confidence, develop leadership skills, make lifelong friendships and experience something different?

Joining the Australian Army Cadets is an opportunity to challenge yourself, learn practical skills, step outside your comfort zone and grow into a confident young leader.

Already a Cadet? Bring a friend along and show them what Cadets is all about!

Young people from 12½ to 18 years of age

Come along to our parade nights and find out what we do.

You are welcome to drop into the Depot before parade to ask questions, have a look around and find out more about joining.

📝 How do I register?
Registration can be completed by simply attending and speaking with our staff at the Depot on a parade night.

This week, CDTCPL Lilly Ramm of 503 Esperance Army Cadet Unit embarks on an incredible international adventure alongside members of 51 Army Cadet Unit Swan Regiment Drums and Pipes , travelling to Colorado, USA, following their invitation to perform at the Estes Park Military Tattoo.

We wish Lilly all the very best as she takes this amazing opportunity to represent 503ACU, 51 ACU, Esperance, Australia and herself, alongside her fellow Cadets and ACS comrades.

Over the coming days, Lilly and the team will perform a range of challenging, exciting and highly skilled musical sets, showcasing the talent, discipline and dedication of Australian Army Cadets on an international stage.

We are incredibly proud to see you representing 503 ACU and Esperance on the world stage. Enjoy every moment of this incredible experience, make memories, and most importantly — have a fantastic time!

Supporter Sunday: Saluting Those Who Keep the Unit Moving!

Today, 503 ACU proudly recognises Blue Dog AG Mechanical, and the incredible support of Fiona and Dan Kil, for their generous contribution to keeping our unit’s transport safe, reliable and ready to go.

With 503 ACU regularly travelling throughout the region and making trips to Perth, Northam and Bindoon for camps, training and activities, reliable transport is absolutely essential. The support provided by Blue Dog AG Mechanical through the maintenance and servicing of our vehicles helps ensure our cadets and staff can get where they need to be, when they need to be there.

Fiona and Dan have generously given their time, expertise and resources to help keep our transport fleet operating at its best. Their support means one less thing for our unit to worry about and allows us to focus on what matters most — providing our cadets with opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

Community support like this is a vital part of what keeps 503 ACU moving. It isn't always the most visible contribution, but behind every successful trip, activity and adventure is a network of people and businesses willing to lend a hand.

Meet our Leadership Team!

Next up is our Platoon Sergeant and future Company Commander CDTSGT Keeley Clarkson-Jones

At just 17 years old, CDTSGT Keeley Clarkson-Jones has already made a strong impression during her 2½ years with Army Cadets.

Describing herself as hilarious, focused and driven, Keeley is someone who is determined to challenge herself, step outside her comfort zone and make the most of every opportunity that Cadets provides.

Outside of Cadets, Keeley enjoys going to the gym, camping and heading out on long drives. She is also particularly proud of having and running her own business, demonstrating the initiative and determination she brings to everything she takes on.

Keeley joined Army Cadets to challenge herself and come out of her shell. Since joining, she has developed a strong desire to continue growing as a leader and is excited about learning everything she needs to know to progress towards becoming a CUO.

Her goals are centered around personal growth, leadership and communication, while experiencing as many new opportunities as possible throughout her Cadet career.

One of Keeley’s strengths is her ability to multitask and juggle many things at once. She believes being a good team member means genuinely caring about herself and her fellow cadets and working towards achieving the highest standard possible.

Keeley demonstrates leadership and responsibility by picking up the slack around the unit and helping wherever she is needed — a quality that makes her a valuable member of the team.

The values that are important to Keeley include integrity, respect and honesty, values that will continue to guide her as she takes on greater responsibility within 503 ACU.

Looking ahead, Keeley hopes to pursue a career in the mining industry as a boilermaker or mechanical engineer. She credits Army Cadets with helping her build the confidence to enter a traditionally male-dominated industry, while also developing the work ethic and determination needed to achieve her goals.

And finally, there is one challenge Keeley is still working on...

Spiders. 🕷️

After 2½ years in Cadets, she remains “petrified” — so apparently not every challenge has been conquered just yet! 😂

We look forward to watching Keeley continue to grow, lead and take on new challenges as she progresses through 503 ACU.

Keep pushing forward, Keeley — your journey is only just beginning!

Meet our Team

Starting with our Admin/Training Officer LT(AAC) Jackson Steele.

With over 8 years in Army Cadets as both a Cadet and now Staff, LT(AAC) Jackson Steele brings a wealth of experience, commitment and leadership to 503 Army Cadet Unit.

Describing himself as reliable, determined and approachable, Jackson is passionate about serving his community and supporting those around him. Outside of Cadets, he enjoys volunteering with local fire brigades, camping, 4WDing and working on cars, with a strong love for the outdoors and community service.

Jackson’s Cadet journey began with a desire to make new friends, learn new skills and challenge himself. Since then, he has progressed through the Cadet ranks into the ACS ranks, having also completed national Army Cadet training courses and attended Adventure Training Award "ATA".

As an instructor and leader, Jackson is focused on continuing to develop his leadership, communication, instructional and decision-making skills, while mentoring junior cadets and setting a positive example.

His approach to leadership is simple: lead by example, support those around him, take responsibility and help the team succeed.

Looking ahead, Jackson aims to build a career where he can continue serving his community while developing his trade skills and leadership experience. He credits Army Cadets with helping him develop leadership, resilience, teamwork and confidence — skills that will continue to serve him well into the future.

Jackson’s goal is to become the best leader he can be, mentor the next generation of cadets, and leave a positive impact on 503 ACU.
