The RSL receives a lot of questions around ANZAC Day so we thought we would share some common questions and a bit of trivia before ANZAC Day, but remember its always ok to ask us a question!!
Can I wear my Grandfathers/mothers medals?
Yes. Allowance is made for family members of a deceased recipient to wear that person's medals on commemorative occasions such as Anzac Day. When worn by others, the medals are worn on the right side to show that the wearer is not the original recipient.

Shire of Esperance will have Road Closures in place on ANZAC Day along Dempster St for the ANZAC Day March, there will be closures at Andrews St and James St roundabouts from approx 5.00am until 12.30pm.
Parking for Esperance IGA Xpress Supermarket will be accessible from the rear carpark off Andrews St. As those marching will form up in the Dempster St carpark.

For all those wishing to march in the Parade before the Mid Day Service. Please assemble at Dempster St IGA before 10.20am we will need some time to form the parade.

What's a Gunfire Breakfast??
The 'Gunfire Breakfast' is not exactly a state secret yet surprisingly hardly common knowledge. Almost all RSL Clubs serve Gunfire Breakfasts following their Dawn Service. The Gunfire Breakfast was the name given to the breakfast taken by soldiers prior to a morning battle. During World War One, this may have included biscuits and jam or tinned Bully Beef served with coffee laced with rum or condensed milk. It was prepared and eaten in darkness to the likely sound of exploding mu*****ns and served cold as any fires or smoke would have given away their position to the enemy. The breakfast has since evolved into a more recognisable hot meal with lashings of bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, tomatoes, damper and tea. Rum is often added to coffee or cold milk as an accompanying drink.
