“I came for the art. I stayed for the people.”

There are so many reasons people walk through our doors : maybe they wanted to learn how to paint, maybe they saw a workshop that looked interesting, maybe someone encouraged them to come.
But somewhere along the way, something else happened.

They found someone to talk to, they discovered they were actually pretty good at something they'd never tried before, they started looking forward to Wednesdays, they began recognising familiar faces, someone noticed when they weren't there.....and slowly, this became their place.

That's one of the things we love most about community arts.

We don't just make things together, we make connections, and sometimes, those connections are the thing that matters most.

Have you seen the program for the 2026 Djilba Wildflower Festival Esperance!

See over 700 of our amazing wildflowers and enjoy a Family Fun Day on Saturday 19th September. There are loads of activities including hands on play with Educated by Nature, Flower Crowns with Katie White from Caladenia Co. and the Sparkle Sisters Esperance for some face sparkle. You can also make some eco flowers and find out what the 'Story Booth' is all about. You may need to book for some of the workshops - check out the booking link below. We are getting excited !

A New Chapter for the Esperance Public Library!

This weekend marks the end of an era as our much loved Esperance Public Library prepares to leave their current building, a place that has been an important community hub for Esperance.

For many people, the library has been much more than a collection of books. It has been a place that has supported a love of reading for our children, a place where many friendships have formed - and it has been a haven, no matter what else is happening in town. So many special memories, so welcoming.

At Esperance Community Arts the Library has always been an important part of our story – with the amazing staff and volunteers always ready for advice, support, shared resources, and being part of community events and activities. From all of us at ECA, we wish the Library staff and Volunteers all the best with the move, and look forward to catching up again in the new location in the Esperance Showground 💛💚💜

Friday 4th September 2026

Celebrate the past, share your memories and help us welcome the future as we bid farewell to the Windich St Library building.

There will be a slide show to watch, a guest book to leave a message in, a chance to paint a personalised library tote bag and ample photo opportunities.

There are plenty of bargains in the Esperance Library Friends book sale in the foyer.

All welcome, afternoon tea provided.

Everyone needs somewhere to belong. Sometimes art is the way in.

Why do people show up?

Sometimes it's because they want to learn something, sometimes they're curious, sometimes a friend asks them to come along, sometimes they just need to get out of the house and sometimes they don't really know why they're there at all.

They just know that something made them walk through the door.

At Esperance Community Arts, we've learned that the reason people come to an art workshop isn't always really about the art. It might be about having somewhere to go, meeting someone new, trying something you've never done before, having a conversation while your hands are busy, being around people without having to have all the answers or simply being welcomed.

The art might be the invitation : connection is the work.

This month we're sharing some of the stories behind our community — the reasons people show up, what they find when they do, and why these spaces matter.

Because everyone needs somewhere to belong.
Sometimes art is the way in. ❤️

Our Djilba Wildflower Festival Esperance preparations are on track at Open Studio. The art installation is coming together, and we have a number of recycled flower designs ready for the Festival Opening on Sat the 19th of September.

It’s been a bit chaotic the past few weeks, but loads of fun ! The last of our flowers came in today (they are gorgeous) and the frames are ready to go. Thank you to the Open Studio crew who have so generously shared their creative skills 💚

Creating an Art Installation
Open Studio Wed | Thurs 10-12noon
This week we will be putting our flower installation together, and we are excited. There is a range of recycled flowers to assemble, and some creative problem solving to make it work - but we are up for the challenge.

Thank you everyone who has created flowers or donated materials, they are quite wonderful. The artworks will be on display at the Djilba Wildflower Festival Esperance 19th - 23rd September.

Celebrating Our Wildflowers – is your Art Competition entry ready?

Local creatives have helped tell the story of Esperance's amazing wildflowers as part of our Wildflower Festivals Djilba Wildflower Festival Esperance. The artworks people create have been an important way to showcase the beauty and the great variety of flowers we enjoy in our region.

Help us make this year’s Art Competition special, so that we can share it with others, and continue to care for the landscapes and wildflowers that are truly unique to our beautiful coastline.

What happens when you give people a lump of clay and permission to play?
You get Euclay!

With the help from artist, Leanne Shilton, we’ve been exploring the wonderful world of clay — getting our hands dirty, experimenting with texture and form, figuring things out as we go and, most importantly, having fun.

There’s something wonderfully grounding about working with clay. You slow down.
You use your hands. You concentrate on what’s right in front of you. And there’s no expectation that everything has to be perfect.

That’s one of the things we love about creative practice at Esperance Community Arts. The process matters just as much as the finished piece.

A little clay, a little curiosity and a room full of people creating together — that's our kind of session. 🤎
