🌱 Community care in action

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along to our Creek to Bridge Clean Up. Whether you stayed for half an hour or the whole event, your effort made a real difference.

We’ll provide bags, gloves, guidance — you just bring yourself, some water, a hat, and a bit of enthusiasm.
Whether you can spare half an hour or more, it all helps.

🌿 Thank you, Erica Expo!

What a beautiful day we had on Saturday — the weather was amazing!

A huge thank you to the Erica Expo organisers for putting together such a welcoming and well run event. We loved being part of it again this year.

Grateful thanks also to all our Mountain Rivers Landcare Group members who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to help on the stall. Your passion for our local environment always shines through.

And to everyone who stopped by for a chat, shared local knowledge or concerns about their patch, or even became a member on the day — we’re so glad you took the time to connect with us. These conversations are what keep community Landcare strong.

We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to catch up with you all.

🌿 Do you have some free time this Saturday?

Come along to the Erica Expo — March 14, 10am–4pm and drop by the Mountain Rivers Landcare stall.

We’d love you to stop in, say hi, and have a chat about the interests and issues important to you — or simply enjoy the Expo and support our local community.

We’ll be sharing plenty of info including on local flora, fauna, w**ds, pests, and easy tools to help you identify and record what you’re seeing around the district.

Hope to see you there.

🌿 Erica Expo is coming up — and we want to hear from you!

Mountain Rivers Landcare will be at the Erica Expo again this year, sharing what we do and chatting with locals about the projects that matter most to our community.

Before we set up our stall, we’d love your input. What Landcare topics or activities would you like to see on the day?

Some ideas we’re considering:

🌾 Information on local w**ds and pest animals and their control
🐦 Habitat tips for birds, bees, and wildlife
📱 Citizen science - using simple technology to help identify record and share what you see on your property
🛠️ Community projects you’d like to see happen
👨‍👩‍👧 Activities for kids and families
💬 A space to share your ideas, concerns, or local knowledge

Tell us what you’re curious about, what you’re struggling with, or what you’d love to learn. Your suggestions help us shape a stall that’s useful, welcoming and strengthens our shared connection to our patch of the world.

Looking forward to seeing you on March 14, 10am–4pm at the Erica Expo.

🫶 Love it like the locals - Development of an action plan ⛺️

After our community meeting last month for Coopers Creek and surrounds, our Landcare group has organised a follow-up meeting to consider what our community might best do now.

There will be a get-together: 6pm, Tuesday 25 March at the Erica Hall.

We propose it as a community action roundtable for people who want to be involved with the solution for the sustainable future use of our recreational areas and associated waterways.

It will be a discussion between community members who have showed interest in being part of a potential working group to draft actions and likely plans to address the issues identified at the initial meeting in February.

Please RSVP by emailing us at [email protected]

Thank you to all the interesting and enthusiast participants who joined us on Saturday for our Frog ID event.

This was a hugely exciting day for our Landcare group to host the Australian Museum in our backyard and learn about citizen science and all things frogs.

A big thank you to Alan and Nicki at Assaggio del Forno for the great location and the wonderful food and, of course, thank you to our guest speaker Nadiah Roslan for travelling to be with us and for a really engaging presentation.

Here are some things we learnt on the day:
🐸 The importance of citizen science
🐸 There are 255 frog species in Australia
🐸 Over 40+ are threatened by habitat degradation, disease, pollution, introduced species (fish, cane toads) and a fungus that affects their skin
🐸 They are important bioindicators of ecosystems health and integral part of the ecosystem and food chain
🐸 Some frogs have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and samples from their skin have helped develop glue for use in surgery

💡 What's a fun fact you've learnt about frogs?
