An emotional week has culminated with our boys producing something special on the pitch, a 3-1 win over Williamstown and a fitting way to send off our much loved Peter.

Pimenta found the back of the net twice, with our opener coming from an own goal.

One family, all together. This one was for Peter.

Vale Peter (Panicos) Mina

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Panicos Mina – a founding member of the Cyprus Community Northern Suburbs Melbourne, our long-serving former President, Life Member and Honorary President, former President of the Federation of Cyprus Communities of Australia & New Zealand, and a man whose life was defined by service, humility and an unwavering love for his Community.

From the very beginning of our Community in 1991, Panico dedicated himself wholeheartedly to building something far greater than an organisation. He helped build a home for generations of Cypriot Australians, a place where our culture, language, traditions and values could flourish long into the future.

For more than three decades, he committed his all without ever asking for recognition. He led with quiet strength, integrity and compassion, always putting the Community before himself. He understood that true leadership is not measured by titles or applause, but by the lives you touch and the legacy you leave behind.

Panico was one of those rare people whose influence can be seen all around us. His vision, determination and countless hours of volunteer service helped shape institutions that continue to enrich the lives of so many families today. The Mill Park Soccer Club, Panhellenic College, the Grace of Mary and St Andrew’s Cypriot Aged Care Facilities, together with our Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Citizens Group, all stand as lasting reminders of a man who believed that a strong Community should care for its people at every stage of life, and a testament to Paniko’s unwavering belief in giving back.

His service extended well beyond our own Community. As President of the Federation of Cyprus Communities of Australia and New Zealand, Panico was a passionate advocate for justice for Cyprus and a tireless supporter of the wider Cypriot diaspora. He championed unity, worked to preserve our identity, and believed deeply in empowering younger generations to continue carrying our culture forward.

Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Panico will remember not only what he achieved, but the way he achieved it. With humility, dignity and genuine kindness. He never sought the spotlight. His reward was seeing our Community grow stronger, knowing that future generations would benefit from the foundations he helped lay.

His passing leaves an enormous void, but his legacy will continue to inspire us. Every family who has benefited from our Community, every child who has played at Mill Park Soccer Club, every student who has walked through the doors of Panhellenic College, and every elder who has received care with dignity carries forward a small part of his life’s work.

On behalf of the Cyprus Community Northern Suburbs Melbourne, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife Androulla, children Maria, Paul and Dino, grandchildren, extended family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing Panico.

Thank you, Panico, for your lifetime of service, your friendship, your leadership and your unwavering commitment to our Community. Your legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come, and your contribution will never be forgotten.

Αιωνία σου η μνήμη. May your memory be eternal. 🕊️

20 July 1974 – 52 Years Since the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus

Δεν Ξεχνώ | We Do Not Forget

Sadly, today, we mark 52 years since the illegal Turkish invasion of the Republic of Cyprus on 20 July 1974.

We remember those who lost their lives, those who remain missing, the hundreds of thousands who were displaced from their homes, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

For the Cypriot community, this is not simply history, but a living memory that continues to be carried across generations.

The United Nations Security Council responded to the events of 1974 through resolutions including Resolution 353, calling for respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, and Resolution 360, reaffirming those principles. Subsequent resolutions, including 541 (1983) and 550 (1984), declared the unilateral declaration of independence in the occupied area legally invalid and called upon all states not to recognise it.

Fifty-two years later, Cyprus remains divided.

As a community, we honour the memory of those who were lost, stand with the families of the missing, and remember those forced to leave their homes. We continue to hope for a just, lasting and peaceful resolution, in accordance with international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions.

We demand justice for Cyprus.

Δεν Ξεχνώ. We Do Not Forget.

It was a wonderful and eventful day at our aged care facility, Grace of Mary, last Friday.

We were delighted to host a special buffet breakfast in collaboration with the Maggie Beer Foundation, showcasing new approaches to food selection, nutrition, and variety for our residents. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore how we can continue enhancing the dining experience and overall wellbeing of those in our care.

We were also honoured to welcome Andrew Giles MP, who visited our facility to meet with residents and staff, and to learn more about the important work we do. We appreciate his time, interest, and ongoing support for our community.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the Anemones Dancing Group treat everyone to a lively and joyful performance, bringing smiles, music, and a wonderful sense of cultural connection to our residents.

A big thank you to everyone involved in making the day so special. 👴🏻👵🏻🇨🇾🇬🇷🇦🇺❤️
