129 ACU is one of the units that make up the South Queensland Australian Army Cadets Brigade and is based at Gallipoli Barracks. The AAC is a community based, Defence sponsored youth development organisation that provides adventurous and educational military-based like training. We teach young Australians, aged between 13-17 years of age, the values of the Australian Army; Service, Courage, Respec

t, Integrity, Excellence. Here, you will find updates, photos, and stories showcasing the incredible journeys and achievements of our cadets. From exciting training exercises to community outreach initiatives, we believe in sharing the moments that shape us into tomorrow's leaders. The Unit parades on Monday nights from 1800h to 2100h (6:00pm to 9:00pm) during the QLD school terms. On average one weekend activity is held a term, with the unit usually occupying a bush training area held in various locations, such as: Gallipoli Barracks, South Brisbane to Sunshine Coast. There is also additional activities events held at a Brigade and National level, such as Leadership Courses and advanced adventurous activities. As part of our larger cadet family, we foster a spirit of camaraderie, encouraging lifelong friendships and connections. Together, we create an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and make a positive impact.

The training didn't stop when the sun went down.

As part of Exercise Rising Shield, tackled a series of night-time first aid scenarios in the urban operations training facility, with senior cadets acting as casualties.

Working in teams, cadets were challenged to locate, assess and treat the wounded while maintaining clear communication under pressure.

High pressure. Quick thinking. Strong teamwork.

This weekend, are out in the field at Gallipoli Barracks for Exercise Rising Shield โ€” a chance to sharpen skills, build confidence, and have a bit of fun along the way.

Todayโ€™s focus was first aid, with cadets rotating through realistic scenarios that challenged them to think clearly, communicate effectively, and work as a team while treating mock casualties.

A huge thank you to LT Powell from 2nd Health Battalion - Australian Army for generously sharing his time, expertise and real-world experience with the cadets.

A week on from ANZAC Day, and weโ€™re still reflecting on a big day of service and remembrance.

With four commemorative services across the day, it was a long but meaningful commitment for our cadets. They conducted themselves with pride, professionalism and respect at every parade and service.

Well done to all involved for outstanding representation of 129 ACU and for honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have worn the uniform โ€” past and present.

In what has become a proud ANZAC Day tradition, our cadets were once again honoured to support the Toc'H Brisbane Branch Midnight Service at ANZAC Square.

It was an early (or very late) start, and while the rain wasnโ€™t welcomed, wet ANZAC Days have become something of a tradition in recent years.

A sincere well done to our cadets for their professionalism and commitment.

We were also especially honoured to have so many former cadets join us in the city to mark this solemn service โ€” a powerful reminder that the values of service and remembrance endure long after cadet days are over.

Congratulations to cadets Joel Budgen, Rowan Butterworth and Max Blair on completing whatโ€™s being described as the toughest ATA ever held in Tasmania.

All three cadets demonstrated exceptional resilience, determination and teamwork throughout the activity.

Completing ATA is a significant achievement, and earning the ATA pin is something to wear with well-deserved pride โ€” a true reflection of their commitment and leadership.

Special thanks also go to Anthony Hogan, who attended Week 1 of ATA as directing staff.

Well done, cadets ๐Ÿ‘

A career in the Australian Army opens the door to a world of opportunities โ€” and cadets from got a firsthand look ๐Ÿ‘€

Our cadets recently explored a mobile Army hospital, learning about the diverse roles, teamwork, and expertise required to deploy this capability in the field.

A huge thank you to 2nd Health Battalion - Australian Army for the warm welcome, detailed tour, and for generously sharing their time and experience.

An inspiring insight into Army health roles and what it takes to make mission-ready care happen. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฉบ
