What a cracker start to the year!!

On Sunday we kicked off with our first event of the year, 🚲Pedal for a Purpose, for

Teaming up with the legends from Eildon Landcare we began the day with a short ride around the Eildon pondage, stopping at the BBQ area to plant a few red flowering gums (Corymbia ficifolia) propagated locally by a group member! These trees will provide habitat for local wildlife, and shade for picnic goers once established.

Despite our best efforts to find litter, the pondage was for the most part spotless!!! Hats off to the Eildon locals for keeping their lovely town tidy. We diverted our efforts to sweeping up the leaf litter covering the walking path near the pondage wall. Improving accessibility for walkers, and riders alike.

We checked a series of nest box that were installed 2 years prior for signs of use; however instead of finding arboreal mammals and birds, we were greeted by a bee’s nest🐝, and a couple spiders 🕷️,

Thank you to all that attended ❤️, and we can't wait to see you at our next event.

Upper Goulburn Out & About 2025 💚🌿

Big shout-out to Upper Goulburn Intrepid Landcare for a genuinely solid 2025 - practical work, great partnerships, and plenty of “come along and join in” energy:
✅ 11 events/activities
👥 40+ Intrepid volunteer attendances
🪴 500+ trees planted
🧤 80kg+ rubbish removed
📣 1,200+ people engaged

Some highlights we loved:
🛶 Canoe & Tree Tune-up - removed 300+ old tree guards at Polly McQuinn Weir
🗑️ Clean Up Australia Day - 30kg+ of rubbish bagged and tagged at Seymour
🎥 Lyrebird film night with Cathedral Landcare - great community vibe + a little fundraising on the side
🌱 National Tree Day - 170 trees planted along a roadside
⛺ Plant & Camp - 110 trees, spotlighting + camping at Lake Eildon NP
🌾 Willomavin Road Trip - 350 grasses/sedges planted for a wildlife corridor
💃 Bush Dance at the Homewood Hall (They call it the nutbush Oh🎸)

And they showed up nationally too, attending the National Landcare Conference alongside 8 other Intrepid groups from across the country🌱🙌

Cannot thank their long list of collaborators, supporters, and backers enough: Cathedral Landcare Group, The Upper Goulburn Landcare Network, Strath Creek Landcare Group, Seymour Clean Up Crew, Victorian Government, Landcare Victoria, Bupa Australia, Melbourne Water, Goulburn Broken CMA, Community Bank Yea & District, and Murrindindi Shire Council.

Proud of this crew for keeping it local, welcoming, and full of the kinds of experiences that help people stick around 💚🌱

🌿 Our Final Adventure of 2025! 🌿

Yesterday we wrapped up our last event for the year, and what a brilliant one it was!

Despite thunder rumbling in the distance, our crew made the hike up to the summit of Mount Timbertop. The walk was absolutely stunning, with wildflowers putting on a show all the way up 🌼🌸🌿💐. We didn’t stay long at the top with the storm rolling in, but the dash back down the mountain only added to the adventure!

We finished the day with a well-earned cuppa and some ice cream — the perfect way to round out the year.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, both new and familiar faces. We loved sharing this experience with you and can’t wait to see what 2026 brings! 🌼✨🌿

🌱🏕️ Plant & Camp 2025 – What a Weekend! 🌿✨

Our Plant & Camp event was a wonderful success, with plenty of new faces joining some familiar ones for a weekend of connection, learning, and adventure.

We kicked off with planting 110 native plants at a beautiful Koriella property 🌳 – future habitat and biodiversity boosters for our local wildlife. A big thank you to the landholders for the delicious lunch that followed!

From there, we set up camp in Alexandra, shared a hearty pub meal, and headed out for a spotlight walk at McKenzie’s Flora & Fauna Reserve. While the night was quiet, we were lucky enough to see a Krefft’s glider, a roosting bird, and even a huntsman spider high in the gums. 🦇🕷️

Sunday started with a frosty morning but soon warmed into a stunning day. After a BBQ breakfast, we set off to Eildon National Park for a hike, plus two fantastic workshops:
🔎 S**t ID with Jake
🌿 Plant ID with Annette

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, helped plant, and brought their energy to the weekend. These events wouldn’t be possible without our amazing community 💚

Happy National Landcare Week!!! We hope everyone has been making the most of this glorious weekend, getting out there and doing what we love in nature 🌞🌿

It’s National Landcare Week - a great time to celebrate the people doing the real work.

Across the country, Landcare volunteers are out there planting, weeding, mulching, monitoring, and showing up for the cause - often in their own time, with their own tools, and without fanfare. That’s the heart of Landcare.

At Intrepid Landcare, we’ve seen how powerful it is when young people step into that space - not just as volunteers, but as organisers, connectors, and leaders. It’s not about waiting your turn - it’s about learning by doing.

Shout out to:
🌿 Landcare Australia and the National Landcare Network, for holding space for this movement to grow
🌿 The local groups who keep showing up, week in and week out
🌿 And all the young landcarers out there doing the hard, hands-on work that makes this possible

Landcare isn’t a campaign - it’s a community. And it’s led by those on the ground.
