Last Sunday we teamed up with Friends of the Earth Melbourne (FoEM) to hike the summit of Mt Torbreck and survey the health of the snow gum populations.

There was an incredible turn out, with many from the local and neighbouring regions joining us on such a lovely day!!

The hike was a challenging 2.1km to the top, with many obstacles along the way. As a team we took it slow and steady reaching the top in under 2.5hrs to enjoy the spectacular clear views of the surrounding ranges.

We undertook 5! snow gum health surveys on the way down.

Some stats from those are:
740 trees surveyed,
of those...
βœ…68% were in good health,
🫀6% were in decline (due to beetle dieback or fire)
☠️20% were dead (due to beetle dieback or fire)

Not great snow gum health overall on the mountain, however the collection of this data is extremely beneficial to help FoEM and their research.

A big thank you to ✨Kim✨ from Friends of the Earth Melbourne for helping organise this citizen science event and providing the group with lots of information regarding snow gums and why they're worth protecting.

πŸŽ‰ Seven years! πŸŽ‰

Today we celebrate 7 incredible years of Upper Goulburn Intrepid Landcare β€” and every single one of those years has been shaped by the wonderful people who make this group what it is.

Seven years of muddy boots, planting days, working bees, and shared thermoses of tea. Seven years of hitting the trails together, cameras in hand for every stunning wildflower along the way. Of camping under the stars, gathering around the BBQ, and laughing a lot in between. Seven years of friends coming together, sleeves rolled up, hearts wide open β€” all for love of this land we call home.

None of it would have happened without our incredible volunteers, whose time and passion have driven everything we do. And a heartfelt thank you to our committee members over the years β€” your dedication, behind-the-scenes hard work, and vision have kept this group going and growing.

Together we've made a real difference for our bush, our waterways, our wildlife, and our community. Here's to the next seven years β€” and all the hands that will help shape them. 🌿πŸ₯³

We hope you enjoy these little flashbacks as much as we do β€” seven years of memories, and so many more to come. πŸ“Έ We would love to hear what your favourite memory from Intrepid is!
