The Fenwick Lodge No. 68 UGLQ

The Fenwick Lodge No. 68 UGLQ The Fenwick Masonic Lodge was formed in May 1890 and meets in Brisbane, Australia. Meetings held First Monday February to December at 7:30pm.

The Fenwick Lodge was formed in May, 1890 at Woolloongabba, and will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary in May 2015. We met on the south side of the river at the old Vulture Street Centre from 1910 until 2004 when we moved into the Ann Street Centre. In 2018 we moved again to our new South Brisbane Masonic Centre at Eight Mile Plains. Today the lodge has 23 members, aged from early 20’s through

to members who have over 30 years continuous membership of our lodge and still are active in the lodges activities. Our members range from white to blue collar workers and even some who work in the newer 21st century professions. The management of the lodge is carried out by the younger members, with the older members to guide and advise us. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming lodge that anybody would feel comfortable joining. Our meetings are professionally run with most finishing within 2 hours, allowing those members with early starts the next day to depart, while those who stay for our well provisioned Festive Board can be assured it will be finished within an hour of the formal meeting ending. We hold social activities throughout the year for all members of the lodge and their family, and lodge members interact between meetings via our web and pages, as well as unplanned social get togethers.

The Fenwick Lodge have been fortunate to secure the Jewels of their late member Wor Bro George Faragher PM which were located in a secondhand shop in Paddington. Thank you to Bro. T of our Sister Lodge Victoria & Albert No. 10 for spotting these and alerting us to them.

On behalf of the Worshipful Master, Officers and Brethren of The Fenwick Lodge No. 68 UGLQ, we wish all a Happy Easter!

A great meeting of Fenwick in March, one of our Entered Apprentices, having patiently served his time in the NE, and proving himself competent in the degree, was expertly passed to the Second Degree by the IPM and the Officers of the Lodge. (Our WM suffered an unexpected injury and is incapacitated for the foreseeable future). We now return to greeting another new member in April, our meeting will be moved by 24hrs to the Tuesday evening due to the Easter long weekend. We have another three potential members who are in process of being vetted so Fenwick Lodge will be standing strong for a while to come.

Fenwick Lodge is back for 2026, with a successful meeting on Monday night where our newest EAF received the First Degree Tracing Board and a number of charges and lectures were delivered by various officers. A good discussion about the work syllabus for 2026 with another initiate to come and potentially a fourth one after. Our March meeting will be the Passing of Bro. C. to the Second Degree.

Does a terrific WM make a terrific lodge, or does a terrific lodge make a terrific WM?

We’ve all seen it, haven’t we? A keen young mason works his way through the Offices and eventually reaches the Chair. And his enthusiasm is quenched. The dead, or dying, hand of inertia trumps unbridled enthusiasm.

Freemasonry isn't a casual pursuit. It demands a disposition inclined toward sacrifice and a genuine interest in comprehending its history, both favourable and disparaging. This isn't just about joining; it's about delving into the libels, charges, and earnest works surrounding its tenets to truly grasp its essence.

If you're drawn only by curiosity or seeking immediate personal gains, Freemasonry won't cater to those whims. It's for individuals who appreciate the blend of art, history, and the profound sentiments behind its practices—a realm for those attuned to the poetry in life and willing to explore its depth.

A small number of members attended our October meeting this evening, mainly due to the King’s birthday long weekend. A practice of the First Tracing Board with Bro. B setting a fine example with his portion of the work, his first real ritual work in the lodge. Next month will be the presentation of the First Tracing Board to our newest member Bro. P and hopefully some representatives of Barron Barnett Lodge No. 146 will be present to enlighten us with some Masonic knowledge.
