Assyrian Australian Association at the Pathway to Employment Expo

On Tuesday 11 August, the Assyrian Australian Association (AAA) President and staff from the AAA Initiative ARC attended the Pathway to Employment Expo at Fairfield Showground.

The Expo was a great opportunity to connect with employment services, organisations and community representatives, and to learn about pathways, opportunities and support available to our community.

The AAA remains committed to supporting our community through employment, education, skills development and meaningful connections.

Thank you to the organisers and everyone who contributed to making the event a success.

🇦🇺 VICTORY IN THE PACIFIC DAY 2026 🇦🇺

Today, 14 August 2026, representatives of the Assyrian Australian Association (AAA) attended the Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day Commemoration and Wreath Laying Service in Cabramatta.

The AAA was represented by Treasurer Alfred Mansour and Carmen Lazar, Coordinator of the Assyrian Resource Centre (ARC).

VP Day commemorates Japan’s acceptance of the Allied demands for unconditional surrender on 15 August 1945, marking the end of the Second World War for Australia and the Pacific.

The service included a commemorative march, wreath-laying ceremony and reflections honouring the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Second World War.

The Assyrian Australian Association was honoured to participate in this important community commemoration and to pay our respects to all those who served and sacrificed for peace and freedom.

🇦🇺 ASSYRIAN MARTYRS DAY COMMEMORATION 🇦🇺

It was an honour to participate in the Assyrian National Council Australia’s Commemoration of Assyrian Martyrs and Genocide Day, remembering and honouring the countless Assyrians who lost their lives during the genocides and persecutions of our people.

The Assyrian Australian Association was proud to join this important commemoration, with our President representing the Association and standing together with members of the Assyrian community to honour the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A particularly meaningful part of the commemoration was seeing students from Diqlat School lay a wreath in honour of our martyrs. Their participation is a beautiful reminder that our history and the memory of those we lost must continue to be passed on to future generations.

Today, we remember their lives, their courage and their resilience. Their stories and sacrifices remain an important part of our history and identity.

May the memory of our martyrs be eternal. 🕊️

Congratulations to the Assyrian National Council – Australia Inc. on this wonderful initiative.

I had the pleasure of visiting the refreshed collaboration space and was truly impressed by the thought, dedication, and cultural significance behind every element. The wall relief inspired by the throne room of King Ashurnasirpal II at Nimrud is a magnificent tribute to our ancient heritage and a powerful reminder of the richness of Assyrian civilisation.

It is inspiring to see a space created not only for meetings and collaboration, but also for preserving our history through the foundations of an Assyrian Archive and supporting the next generation of Assyrian leaders through The Young Assyrians.

Projects like this demonstrate the importance of preserving our heritage while creating opportunities for our youth to learn, connect, and shape the future of our community.

The Assyrian National Council – Australia Inc. (ANCA) is pleased to unveil a refreshed collaboration space at our Sydney office, thoughtfully designed to better serve our community while celebrating our rich cultural heritage. At the heart of the space is a striking wall relief inspired by the ancient throne room of King Ashurnasirpal II at Nimrud, paying tribute to one of the great achievements of Assyrian civilisation.

Alongside this, we have introduced a welcoming seating area, created a dedicated planning and strategy space for meetings and collaboration, and established the foundations of an Assyrian Archive. The archive will preserve works relating to Assyrian history, cultural identity, the Assyrian Genocide, advocacy, and contemporary issues affecting our people.

A key purpose of this space is to support our youth subsidiary, The Young Assyrians (TYA). We want to provide young Assyrians with a place where they can meet, collaborate, research, develop new ideas, and grow into the next generation of community leaders.

By investing in an environment that encourages learning, planning, and leadership, we are investing in the future of our community. These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to strengthening the ANCA as a place where we can connect, preserve its history, develop future leaders, and work together to advance the interests of the Assyrian people.

Honouring Our Assyrian Martyrs

The Assyrian Australian Association (AAA) was privileged to attend the Assyrian Martyrs Day Commemoration Dinner, hosted by the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) Australia Chapter on Friday, 7 August 2026.

Representing the Association were AAA President Ben Doud, Treasurer Alfred Masour, Director Caroline Isaac, and community member Mary Masour.

Assyrian Martyrs Day is one of the most significant commemorations in our nation's history. It is a day to remember the countless Assyrians who sacrificed their lives in defence of our people, our faith, our culture, and our homeland. Their courage and resilience remain a source of inspiration, reminding us of the importance of preserving our identity and standing united as a community.

The Assyrian Australian Association thanks the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) Australia Chapter for hosting this dignified and meaningful evening of remembrance. Events such as these ensure that the stories of our martyrs continue to be shared, honoured, and passed on to future generations.

As we reflect on the sacrifices made by those who came before us, let us reaffirm our commitment to preserving our rich heritage and strengthening our community for generations to come.

A Symbol of Our Heritage Preserved for Future Generations

The Assyrian Australian Association was deeply honoured to receive a truly significant piece of our community's history during the "11 Voices – One Stage – One Unforgettable Night" celebration held at the Nineveh Ballroom.

One of the evening's most meaningful and symbolic moments was the presentation of an original stone from the historic Nineveh stage, carefully preserved before the redevelopment of the original Nineveh Hall into today's Nineveh Ballroom.

This historic commemorative piece was generously presented by Amir Awraham to the Assyrian Australian Association and formally accepted on behalf of the Association by our Secretary, Marilyn Oshana Gallo.

More than just a stone, it is a tangible reminder of the vision, dedication, and hard work of the generations of Assyrians who built Nineveh Hall in 1980. For more than four decades, the Nineveh stage has welcomed countless artists, celebrations, and community milestones, becoming one of Australia's most treasured Assyrian cultural landmarks.

The Assyrian Australian Association sincerely thanks Amir Awraham for this thoughtful and generous gesture. The commemorative stone will be carefully preserved as part of the Ashurbanipal Library Object Collection, where it will be catalogued and safeguarded as an important artefact of our community's history. It will serve as a lasting reminder of the legacy of those who laid the foundations of the Association and will help educate and inspire future generations about the significance of Nineveh Hall and its enduring place in Australia's Assyrian story.

The Assyrian Australian Association also congratulates Amir Awraham, the performers, Eden Band, and everyone involved in delivering such an outstanding evening celebrating Assyrian music, culture, and heritage. It was a night that honoured our past while inspiring future generations to continue preserving and celebrating our rich cultural legacy.
