Well that's a WRAP for the REBL+SHY studio for 2025!

To round out the year, we got real cute and made portraits of eachother -big on feelings, bold colours & wonky lines, inspired by ABC iview’s A Portrait Artist of the Year.

As we close the studio doors on 2025, our hearts are full as we leave with the kind of creative trust that only comes from making things together. We’re so deeply grateful for every artist, every risk taken, every story told without words. Rest up, and we’ll see you in 2026 with fresh eyes, new tricks, and plenty more magic waiting to unfold.

The Devonport Regional Gallery Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program 2026 line-up has just been announced.. and we’re so proud to celebrate one of our own!

A huge congratulations to Cathy Jenner, a beloved member of REBL+SHY who will be showcasing her work 2 May – 13 June 2026. We can’t wait to see her world come to life in the Little Gallery space.

ALLUVIUM + INK + PAPER

In the lead up to Alluviums new album Heavenly, we listened + responded to music with ink on paper. What a treat to have our very own live performance to inspire the marks we make.

Heavenly Bodies

This workshop was held in collaboration with Alluvium, whose album Heavenly inspired a joyful and intuitive process of mark-making.

Using long brushes and sticks on large rolls of paper, participants responded directly to the soundscapes of Heavenly. These extended tools were chosen to encourage freedom of movement—helping us get out of our heads and into our bodies. They allowed us to feel the music through gesture, loosening tight, focused drawing and inviting open, expressive marks. The music filled the space, setting the rhythm and guiding textures and movement across the surface.

The album Heavenly evokes the vastness of the skies and the wonder of the cosmos. As we painted, we imagined stars, planets, and drifting clouds—our marks echoing constellations, swirling galaxies, and the feeling of looking up into a boundless night. The final works are infused with that sense of awe and openness, inspired by both sound and sky.
