The MUA Tasmanian Branch is proud to announce the inaugural Battle of the Ports football round between the Devonport Football Club and the Burnie Football Club.

This exciting initiative was brought forward by MUA member and Devonport player Clint Matthews, with the aim of creating a strong community and industry partnership that celebrates the proud maritime and port history of Tasmania’s North West Coast while supporting grassroots football, local clubs and
regional communities.

The Battle of the Ports is intended to become an annual event, recognising the historic connection between our ports, maritime industries, workers and local sporting communities.

Qube has come out in opposition to high-risk licensing for maritime crane operators.

Every crane driver in our community holds a licence, yet Qube does not believe its employees, or other wharfies and seafarers in one of the most dangerous and dynamic industries, deserve the same standard.

Safe Work Australia must reject profit-first arguments from corporations that put workers’ lives at risk.

The branch is very sad to hear the passing of Ray (Stump) Hill on 18/05/2026.

Ray was a long time MUA member & stevedore in King Island. Ray first joined the MUA in 1972 before his departure in 2004. Ray was a much beloved comrade in King Island, Currie and was adored by all those who knew him.
