Today marks the second National Day for Women Living with HIV in Australia - an awareness-raising day created by Femfatales the national network of women living with HIV in Australia.
What does March 9 mean for women and our communities? Femfatales Chair, Katherine Leane says...
"We are aiming to create a greater awareness of the needs of women living with HIV in Australia, "said "It's hard to believe that in 2017 some people don't think that there are women living with HIV in this country. But there are around 3, 000 of us, or about 10 percent of the HIV-positive population.
"Because of the perception that women are not at risk of HIV, women don't test for it….[and] a late diagnosis can mean….a compromised immune system and sometimes, an AIDS-defining illness.
"The more people talk about HIV, the more we encourage women to test for it, the more we will be able to diagnose and treat women appropriately. This is the aim of this special day," said Kath.

QPSB acknowledges International Women's Day!! We all know at least one woman in our life who has contributed toward our life something wonderful, something memorable, something that makes us more the person we celebrate being today than the person we are not. Today is for that woman, and if you are a woman, today is to celebrate the woman you are for someone else.

Well done to Jen for sharing her story at the WAD Media Launch in Cairns on Monday, and with 7 News with this story.
"The more people can talk about [HIV] the more it can be normalised..so it's just like another chronic illness" Jen Tasker https://www.facebook.com/7newscairns/videos/1131421176978567/

Today is World AIDS Day. QPSB recognises and honours this day with respect to the lives lost to the AIDS pandemic over time both here in Australia and globally, and acknowledges the many lives and relationships presently affected by HIV. The impact of HIV on personal lives is complex and has many layers. QPSB is here to humanise HIV, to provide an accessible and relatable story..many diverse relatable stories… that speak to the shared human experience to which we are all connected - to our shared universal needs for respect, equity, good health, inclusion, belonging, contribution and freedom to be….among many more. Today I want to thank our amazing team of speakers who are Queensland men and women: friends, partners, mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles, workers and carers who speak out to address the stigma, secrecy and misconception that still exists in community. World AIDS Day is a day to also celebrate all the activism, advocacy, research and goodwill that has led to HIV now being a liveable chronic health condition in 2016.

It is World Hepatitis Day!
May awareness be raised so that all people living with viral hepatitis know that they have it; so that those people find the just right support and access to improved effective treatment options with least disturbance to their lives, relationships and wellbeing and for Hep C, the real promise of cure! May there be increased understanding and support for all people affected by viral hepatitis and may all people gain access to information that supports them in preventing its acquisition. To all of our speakers affected by viral hepatitis, I want to thank you for standing up and contributing toward the realisation of this vision. Through your brave and committed action, you are improving the life experiences of many others. QPSB supports you.
