ALPA is proud to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Kyle Nacard, after an extensive national recruitment process. Kyle was unanimously appointed by the ALPA Board as the successful candidate and will commence in the role on 1 May 2026. Kyle is currently ALPA’s General Manager of Enterprise and Economic Development.

This comes after the announcement in January that Alastair King would be stepping down following 25 years as CEO.

ALPA Chairperson Mätjarra (Faye) Garrawurra said “we are grateful for Alastair’s commitment and hard work over the last 25 years. We are looking forward to working with Kyle as our new CEO and continuing to build on ALPA’s success.”

“Kyle brings strong business experience and is a leader that can guide us into the next chapter of ALPA’s story. He has played an important role as a General Manager; and has led the growth of the businesses in his division over the past 3 and a half years.”

Our Community Engagement team work across lots of different communities, so getting everyone together is a rare event.

Last week, we had the whole crew in Darwin for an annual planning day - full of reflections, new ideas and plenty of inspiration for the year ahead.

The team were lucky to have ALPA Chair Mätjarra Garrawurra drop by to offer some words of encouragement and wisdom.

School holidays may be over, but we’re still smiling thinking about all the incredible moments shared through East Arnhem Land Youth Model (EALYM) activities!

A standout this break was the Djarradawun Activity in Gapuwiyak — a space where djämarrkuli (children) connect with homelands, learn from family, and strengthen their confidence in culture through rich, hands‑on experiences.

This activity is led by long‑standing program staff Margaret Marrkula and Lindsay Gurruwiwi, supported by families who volunteer their time and knowledge. Both the activity and the people behind it have been involved since the program began in 2021.

Djämarrkuli take part in raypirri sessions with elders, arts and crafts, and plenty of sports. They’re learning, having fun, and are supported by community every step of the way.

Recent retail training in Pirlangimpi on the Tiwi Islands with Karlee, Gabrielle, Patricia and Patrick!

Some words about the week from Trainer Nikki:

"Had a wonderful trip working alongside the Store and Club teams. Everyone so welcoming. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, engagement, and positivity from both newly enrolled learners and those continuing their training. The week was made even more special by the stunning sunsets, wild horses, and some wicked storms" - Nikki.

Meet the Good Food People team 👋 We're super excited to be leading this national program. It's all about building a First Nations nutrition workforce in remote stores to support healthier store environments.

This means we've needed more nutrition djämamirr (staff) for the big work ahead. Welcome to this strong group of new starters:

🔴 Nutrition Workforce Mentors - Welcome to Nicole Dhurrkay and Matilda Walker. They'll be supporting Good Food People trainees and the nutrition team to deliver culturally appropriate resources and training.
🔴 Nutritionists: Georgina Myerscough, Sarah Robertson and Celia Innerarity - joining us to boost our capacity to deliver the program and ensure that trainees are well supported on the ground.
🔴 Admin Support: Greeshma Babu - keeping all the moving parts connected so the team can focus on providing quality training.

The next step is recruiting Good Food People trainees out in stores. We can't wait to see this program grow over the next year - more updates to come!
