On the 4th of June, CRC attended KWOOP's 10th Annual Parliamentary Breakfast. The event brought together members of parliament, dedicated advocates, corrective services officials and sector leaders with the goal of halving women's imprisonment in NSW by 2030, with a particular focus on Aboriginal women. The KWOOP Strategy 2026-2028 is a powerful document offering a practical, evidence-based plan that addresses the drivers of women’s incarceration, and outlines where action can be taken to improve outcomes through prevention, support within the criminal legal system and successful reintegration to community.

The event also saw the release of the Corrective Services NSW Women's Strategy 2026-2036 (the Women's Strategy), a response to The Astill Inquiry that acknowledges the systemic failures in supporting women with experiences of trauma. The strategy provides oversight of issues affecting women in custody and provides a roadmap for improving treatment of women in custody, with safety and dignity.

Thank you to the Keeping Women Out Of Prison Coalition for another powerful event to push towards a future where women will receive the support needed to live free from involvement in the criminal legal system.

Staff from our Miranda Project and ARPU presented at the Penrith Women's Health Centre annual Nepean Blue Mountains Domestic and Family Violence Forum.

Marisa Moliterno, ARPU Manager, has shared “It was great to have a forum dedicated to systemic abuse.”

The forum is specific to practitioners, advocates and sector colleagues. This year’s theme, ‘Misused Systems, Missed Protection’ highlighted how the current systems dedicated to supporting women can be misused against them, and fall short of meeting the needs of women, children and young people experiencing violence.

As the PWHC has stated, “Through presentations, speakers and collaborative discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding, share practice knowledge, and strengthen cross-sector connections.”
