Construction Update - Northshore

EDQ have posted an update on the Have Your Say page regarding the Street Renewal program with BMD.

⚠️ MacArthur Avenue will close between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street from early to mid-November for approximately 18 months. A temporary riverside lane will open between Wharf Street and Bincote Street prior to the MacArthur Avenue closure to support east-west travel for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

⚠️ Future removal of parking spaces on MacArthur Avenue

On-street parking on MacArthur Avenue between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street will be unavailable for the duration of the MacArthur Avenue upgrade works. Alternative visitor parking will be available at The Yard Car Park and Dock B, C and D Car Parks, subject to existing parking terms and conditions, including no overnight parking. Advance notice of parking changes will be provided. To avoid your vehicle being towed, please ensure it is removed before MacArthur Avenue closure.

⚠️ Temporary pedestrian footpath closure on Wharf Street

The pedestrian footpath along Wharf Street will remain temporarily closed in October to undertake utilities installation work. A pedestrian diversion will remain in place during this period and some kerbside car parking spaces will remain unavailable. We will work to minimise disruption and restore normal pedestrian access as soon as possible following the completion of these works.

Access to the nearby EV Chargers will continue to be maintained during these works.

NEWS FROM BMD

Tree relocation update

As discussed at the sessions, next week BMD will undertake the removal of some median trees along MacArthur Avenue ahead of the upcoming road closure, with temporary traffic control in place as required. At the same time, trees identified for relocation will undergo preparation works ahead of being replanted in their new location along Wharf Street.

BMD is preparing to upgrade MacArthur Avenue between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street as part of Economic Development Queensland’s Northshore Hamilton Street Renewal Program.

Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2026 and take about 18 months. Timing may change as preparation works are finalised.

BMD is hosting community information drop-in sessions on Tuesday, 25 August and Friday, 28 August.

This will include information about the closure of Macarthur Ave North between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street for the duration of construction.

Brisbane’s ferry service will be suspended between 8 am and 10 am on Friday July 31st due to industrial action.
It comes as the Maritime Union of Australia negotiates a new agreement with RiverCity Ferries, following approval from the Fair Work Commission on July 1.
