This week, QMRS teams are on the ground in Zambia, competing at the International Mines Rescue Competition.

Representing Moranbah North and Grosvenor, these crews earned their place after taking out first and second at the Australian Mines Rescue competition.

It’s more than a competition. It’s months of training put into practice, working alongside international teams, testing skills, sharing knowledge, and learning what works when it matters most.

We are so proud of our teams and the standard they’ve set. Big week ahead 💪

Great to welcome Senator Anthony Chisholm, Assistant Minister for Resources and Assistant Minister for Regional Development, and Linus Power , Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth, to our Dysart facility today.

Chairman Brett Garland and CEO Tim Jackson led a tour of the site, showcasing the training environments, equipment and capability that support mines rescue across Queensland.

They also had the chance to meet some of our volunteers in action during training, a strong reminder of the skill, commitment and readiness that sits behind every response.

The visit provided an opportunity to talk about the future of QMRS, centred around the Moranbah township and the role we continue to play in keeping our people and our industry ready when it matters most.

Has your mine ever considered hosting a QMRS competition?

Former Broadmeadow Mine Manager Peter Baker said the benefits extended well beyond the event itself.

“Rescue members have skills that help us every day in coal mining operations.”

“For us, hosting the Australian Competition in 2025 was about being part of the mining community and showcasing Broadmeadow.”

“It is not just about running the comp. The real value is lending your underground environment so the training is realistic.”

“You share your resources, others learn from you, and your own organising committee gains a deeper understanding of rescue. The logistics and facilitation become a training exercise in their own right.”

“Hosting the competition is like a city hosting the Olympic Games. It allows you to showcase your mine, and the legacy it leaves is invaluable.”

“What we have done to our training gallery is second to none. It is a true simulation of underground conditions and something we will benefit from for years to come.”

Hosting builds capability. It strengthens teams. And the impact stays long after the final scenario.
