Folk in the Forest Festival

Folk in the Forest Festival Folk in the Forest is an intimate festival and the major annual event for Little Folk Inc, a Western Australian childrens cancer charity.

Little Folk Childrens Cancer Charity is a Perth based charity that operates in the performing arts space to raise funds for cancer research, initially at Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, now at Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation. Run entirely by volunteers - every dollar of donations received goes directly to our stated charitable cause and we do not pay any staff, executive or collectors

. Folk in the Forest festival is our major annual event and over its seventeen year history has seen some of Australia's top folk performers donating their time to support a great cause. A significant milestone was achieved at this year’s Folk in the Forest festival with $250,000.00 donated to the PCH Foundation.

This year, Banksia Springs will host Folk in the Forest for its 21st year on Friday 13th - Sunday 15th November 2026. Tickets will be launched closer to the event and programme information will be shared as soon as available.

In the meantime…we’re looking for expressions of interest from performers and volunteers, and are keen to hear from you.

We need assistance with...

handling the welcome desk,
moving furniture,
setting up concert venues,
Stage management,
assisting with preparation and serving of food - and more...

The festival starts on Friday evening with a Ceilidh, so you might like to lead the band, call a dance or two or be an MC. Saturday and Sunday we will have several presentations/workshops and concerts. Saturday afternoon the Blackboard concert starts about 3.00pm and the evening concert starts at 7.00pm. The farewell concert on Sunday has traditionally run from midday to 2.00pm but we expect to extend the program to finish as late as 6.00pm.

Let’s have your ideas! Please complete our Expression of Interest form and one of the Little Folk Team will be in touch.

Saturday at Folk in the Forest starts with ‘Breakfast in the Bush’ between 8-9am which will be followed by morning workshops/presentations with Nick Turner and Brian Langley. After lunch, there will be a workshop/presentation with Espresso Duo (Francesca and Pat Irwin) who are new to Folk in the Forest and described as 'bluesy jazz, country folk and light rock’. Bob’s Blackboard Concert in the Dome starts mid-afternoon so be sure to put your name on the board for a chance to strut your stuff.

The Sundowner follows and continues through dinner time while we set up for the Saturday Night Concert which starts at 7pm sharp. We have a brilliant line up! Enjoy performances by Robert Zielinski and Manuela Centanni; Ciaran O’Sullivan, Donagh and Lucy; Bernard Carney and Peter Bugden; 5 Star Trio; and The Ebb Tide Men followed by the Late Night Session into the wee hours.

Friday at Folk in the Forest!

For those visiting the festival for the first time, look for the signs around Dwellingup pointing out where to find Folk in the Forest. Gates will open at 3.00pm. When you arrive, please visit the Welcome Desk to register your arrival and get information on finding your bed or your camping area, and where to park when you've got yourself set up. Then you'll be free to wander the grounds, make some new friends and meet those you already know. By then, the bar will be set up, thanks to Dion and his crew, so the serious business of enjoying the festival can get under way.

At this point also, dinner will be simmering away due to the hard work of some of our lovely volunteers. Curries are definitely on the menu, along with burgers, chips and salad. They will take care of Friday dinner, Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch at the same low prices as last year.

Now to the festival itself 😁

It starts with the traditional Ceilidh at 7.30pm with music by the Rose and Wattle Dance band - Russell Johnsen, Dave and Jenny Hoffman et al. Callers Julie Morandini of the Rose and Wattle English Country Dance Group and Martin Williams of Perth International Dance will keep you on your toes. We'll have a few floor spots among the dances to help us catch our breath. After a few hours, it'll be time to gather some chairs in a circle for the popular Late Night Session.

There are only a few tickets left - if you or anyone you know has not got your tickets yet - now is the time. Beds are sold out but there are camping spaces available plus a few rooms are available at the Forest Lodge or Dwellingup pub.
