We did it!
Last year the Legislative Assembly Economy and Infrastructure Committee ran an Inquiry into the impact of road safety behaviours on vulnerable road users.
We were deeply concerned to find that horse riders were not already recognised as vulnerable road users, and that motorists had no obligation to slow down or give way to horse riders under Victorian road rules.
Bitless Inc worked with Animal Care Australia Inc to conduct a survey of horse riders' and drivers' experiences on Vic roads, wrote a detailed submission, and Bitless Inc's President, Sue Lewis, gave witness testimony at an inquiry hearing in August 2023.
This week the Final Report was published and we are overjoyed to share that the Committee adopted ALL of our recommendations in the report! Once accepted by the Victorian Government, horse riders will be recognised as vulnerable road users, pass wide and slow signs will be added to horse rider warning signs, speed limits for passing horse riders will be set in law, and motorists will be educated on how to pass horses safely.
With your support, we will continue this work into other states. Join Bitless Inc today:
