GWS REGION SCOUT JAMBOORETTE 2026 – An Unforgettable Long Weekend of Adventure!
1st Dural Scout Group Takes First Prize at Regional Jamborette in the prestigious Gateway Competition.
Our 1st Dural Scout Unit recently returned from an action-packed Jamborette over the long weekend in June, joining hundreds of other Scouts in the Region. All youth members and leaders had a wonderful time spending the 3 nights and 4 days, tackling high-adventure bases and building lifelong friendships around the campfire.
Planned to challenge and inspire, the action-packed weekend saw our Scouts take on a wide variety of outdoor adventure challenges. They rotated through thrilling activity bases, including abseiling, a towering rock climbing wall, STEM activities and more. Beyond the physical challenges, Scouts also got to test their pioneering skills, participate in campfires, enjoyed themed entertainment shows and swapping stories under the stars.
Under the guidance of the leaders, the Scouts built a spectacular, custom-engineered Killer Whale structure to mount across their gateway entrance. The judges at the Jamborette were blown away by the creativity and structural integrity of the design, officially awarding 1st Dural the premier prize for the best gateway.
More than just fun and adventure, the weekend also allowed the Scouts to tick off important progression points in the Outdoor Adventure Skills framework of the Scout Program. They set up the campsite and camped together as a self-sufficient unit.
Scouting provides young people with fun and challenging opportunities to grow in character, leadership, friendships and outdoor skills.
New members are always welcome to join the adventure. Our Scout hall is on 414 Galston Rd. Galston.

Remembering and Honouring Warren Payne: A Legacy of Service at 1st Dural Scout Group from 1997 to 2025

It is with deep sadness, yet immense gratitude, that we honour the life and legacy of Warren Payne, a titan of 1st Dural Scout Group.

Warren passed away in 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy after dedicating nearly three decades to Scouting, starting in 1997. Serving in multiple vital roles—Group Leader, Group Chairperson, Group Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer.

Warren was truly the heart of our Scout Group [1st Dural] for many years. He believed in the potential of every single Scout, working tirelessly to ensure our youth had a safe, fun, and challenging environment to develop leadership and a love for the outdoors.

To ensure Warren’s immense impact is never forgotten, the Group Committee established The Bear Award. This award is presented annually to a Scout who embodies the spirit of adventure, community service, and leadership that Warren modelled for us all.
It recognises a Scout who:
Shows exceptional dedication to the Troop,
Lends a helping paw to younger Scouts.
Maintains a positive attitude, regardless of the challenge.

Warren Payne, “Gone Home” thank you for your service and guiding so many on life’s trail. We will carry on your great work.

1st Dural Scout Group Celebrate Community Spirit and Adventure
It has been a busy and meaningful Term 1 for the 1st Dural Scout Group, with Scouts, Leaders and Parents coming together for both adventure and community reflection.
The group recently returned from their annual Family Camp at Maroota, where Scouts of all ages—from our youngest Joeys to our Venturers—shared a weekend of outdoor fun with their families. Activities included bushwalking, canoeing and campfire cooking and more, proving that Scouting is just as much about building family connections as it is about learning new skills.
Following the excitement of camp, the group stood tall at the recent ANZAC Day service and parade. Our members were honoured to march alongside veterans, with many of our youth taking on the responsibility of carrying the flag, laying a wreath It was a proud moment for the leaders and parents to see the Scouts show such deep respect for those who have served.
1st Dural Scout Group is always looking for new members to join the adventure. Open to boys and girls aged 5-25 years, our trained leaders teach skills that help young people succeed in life.
