🔥 Total Fire Ban - Extreme Fire Danger Rating (Christmas Day)

Tomorrow (Thursday 25 December 2025) has been declared an Extreme Fire Danger Rating — the first for our summer season — with a Total Fire Ban in place for most of the South West.

Extreme conditions mean any fire that starts will be very difficult — and often impossible — to control. Even small sparks can quickly become life-threatening fires.

There is also a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban from 9:00am–5:00pm.
The Total Fire Ban applies all day.

👉 Get prepared.
Have a clear bushfire plan so everyone in your household knows what to do and when to leave. You can create or download your Bushfire Plan via the Emergency WA website or app.

If you see smoke or fire, call 000 immediately.

We know this can be inconvenient, but these measures are in place to protect lives, homes and our community. Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe 🙏

The Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban is in place from 𝟵.𝟬𝟬𝗮𝗺 - 𝟱.𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 Thursday 25 December 2025. The Total Fire Ban is for all day.

Activities NOT permitted during the ban:
❌Harvesting operations are not permitted.
❌Any off-road activity is banned, regardless of whether it is for agricultural purposes or work being conducted by business, industry and public authorities.
❌Off-road includes areas such as paddocks, bushland, uncleared land and land with stubble or long grass.
❌Off-road activity includes the use of anything activated by an internal combustion engine used off-road e.g. motor bikes, quad bikes, excavators, chain saws, ride on lawn mowers and generators.
❌Road works using machinery.

🔥 Christmas Day Extreme Fire Danger ratings are in place for most local government areas in the Lower South West region.

Please take a few minutes to prepare:

📲 Download the Emergency WA app and create your Emergency Plan
📍 Set up a watch zone around your property in Emergency WA so you’re notified if a bushfire warning is issued
🚗 If a fire starts, take immediate action — if you and your property aren’t prepared to the highest level, plan to leave early
🎒 Pack your emergency kit and keep it handy
🐾🐴 Don’t forget your pets, horses and livestock — plan for their safety too

💛 A little preparation now can make a big difference. Stay safe this Christmas.

🚨 A reminder about cigarette butts 🚨

Today we attended a small fire caused by a discarded cigarette butt.

A huge thank you to young Alex, who noticed smoke and immediately went to get an adult for help. Because of that quick action, and thanks to the adults who responded fast, the fire was extinguished before it could spread.

It was also a timely reminder that mulch can reignite up to 10 minutes later, even when a fire appears to be out.

To the person seen disposing of a cigarette into mulch and leaving it smouldering: aside from littering being illegal, please rethink the question on the butt. The impact may seem small, but the consequences can be devastating to homes, wildlife, firefighters, and the wider community.

Please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly. One careless moment can put many lives at risk. 🔥🚒
