šŸšŸROUND 12 WRAP UPšŸšŸ

Stage 1 DCC Blues (113) vs DCC Whites (128)

Played on a Thursday arvo at the subcontinent like dustbowl of Dunsborough Primary. Blues won the toss and elected to bowl. The arvo heat not worrying their boys.

Some solid tight cricket for 7 overs was blasted open by the express pace of Dallas South in the 8th with 2 consecutive stump rattling deliveries. Whites got to drinks with a nice run rate of just over 5. Mitch Henry, Jaques Duque and Harry Jamieson all took 1 wicket each after drinks to see Whites score 108 off the bat with an even spread between the boys.

After a quick turn around and Sherbs chasing off the ever encroaching roos, Koa Hopkinson got a wicket in the first over with Will O'Brien following up with one in the 3rd. From then on until the last over the Blues batted very well with the runs shared between all the boys too.

With 13 runs separating the teams coming into the last over it was tight and could've gone either way. Koa held his nerve with the ball to take 3 wickets and get the Whites over the line.
A great game of cricket with excellent skills and sportsmanship on display. Congrats to both teams.

Stage Two Blues 5/172 def Hawks Green 6/135 with great contributions from the whole team.

Skipper Ethan Smith won the flip and, backing our bowling, sent the Hawks in for a hit. It didn’t take long for the for the boys to strike, Xavier Phelan kept his hot streak rolling, snagging a wicket in his first over like he’d ordered it. The skipper followed suit the very next over, a swinging delivery that took the off stump. At 2 down the Hawks steadied the ship before Beau Rowell absolutely rearranged the furniture; clattered the stumps and snapped the bails clean in half (yep, literally). Not long after, the Hawks’ danger man was removed thanks to some quick thinking behind the pegs from Judah Baker, sharp glovework to finish off a stumping off Samuel Jackson’s bowling. At drinks they were wobbling at 4/69.

To their credit, the Hawks dug in and grafted their way to 6/135, but the Blues kept the squeeze on, with Judah and Finn Sapwell chiming in with a wicket apiece to close out the innings.

Chasing 136, the Blues came out swinging. Samuel and Beau punishing any bad balls, with Samuel launching his first six of the season before retiring on 13. Beau kept the tempo humming, a typically punchy 25 off 24, while Judah went full T20 mode, carving up 41* off 31 in a proper power-hitting clinic.

That gave Xavier the time he needed to find his groove after a couple of quieter knocks. Once he middled a few, the typically compact Xav was back as he cashed in on the Hawks’ bowlers, finishing unbeaten on 29, his best return for the year šŸ™Œ. Ethan Smith chimed in with a composed 15* off 20, building nicely and looking primed for a bump up the order.

Hard to split the Play of the Day honours, but Finlay Brejnak’s top-shelf sportsmanship as a sub fielder, snaffling two catches for the Hawks was pure class. That, and the big smiles as Judah and Xavier walked off unbeaten and chuffed for each other, capped off a cracking day for the Blues.

Stage 2 DCC Whites V Hawks Gold

This week we were on the road to Rapids Landing primary school in Margret River on a playing field that had more lumps than my mums custard, but the conditions were cool and pleasant and we were looking forward to the game. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day the Hawks Gold (4/170) defeated DCC Whites (4/128).

The Hawks won the toss and sent us into bat. We started strongly with Moss Clarke (12 runs off 11 Balls) getting off to a flyer but a miss timed shot cost him his wicket. Matt Watson (20 runs of 28 Balls Not Out) along with James Conn who was our top scorer (23 runs of 21 Balls Not Out) upped the run rate with some good shots and tight running between the wickets then both retired. Ned Duffield (17 runs of 15 Balls Not Out) came in and played some great shots to keep the score ticking over nicely. Our run rate did slow up during the middle part of the innings but again our batsmen proved difficult to remove. In total we had 7 retired not out batsman and although its been tough for some of our first year boys to make runs, my directive to them all season has always been, I am not concerned about how many runs you make it’s all about protecting your wicket and staying in and they have done this superbly throughout the season.

Our turn to bowl and it’s the first time I have introduced spells. Well more questions fired at me on the field that you’d get being on The Chase TV show. The other coach couldn’t hide is amusement at the goings on but it was a success, the boys got to field in their chosen positions for most of the game and I think they all enjoyed the concept. Our bowling was tight with Alex Tscheuschler (1 for 6 of 2 overs), James Conn (1 for 9 of 2 Overs) and Ned Duffield (1 for 14 of 2 Overs) being our wicket takers.

Unfortunately our fielding lapsed and we missed a lot of chances and plenty of miss fields. Our highlights were Moss Clarke taking 2 catches one being a front diving screamer at gully the other a nice overhead catch at gully and Huxley Partridges run out, other than that the boys seemed to fade and we couldn’t contain the Hawks run rate and eventually our score was chased down comfortably. As always though proud of how our boys go about the game and the spirit they play.

U14 Blues vs Saints white @ Churchill.

A lovely day for cricket and Dunsborough won the toss and batted. It was nice to welcome back Troy Byrne and Jarryn South.
Wickets fell quickly and runs were hard to come by and before we knew it we were 5/38 before drinks. Van Bootland (31*) stayed strong after a BBQ at West’s expense and managed to retire from his first 30. Chase Gilbert (22) made a good start but fell victim to his desire to hit big, after controversially being given a life three balls earlier. It was looking really (really) bad in more ways than one when Oscar Dagg got out on 13 and the score was 7/78. Davie Saayman (9* off 40) steadied the ship with some good old-fashioned cricket which stopped the Saints’ momentum. Man of the match, Troy Byrne (69 off 35) then came to the rescue with his knock of the season, he hit the ball to all parts, and between him, Van and Davie steered the total to 8/168.

With a decent score on the board, the boys applied maximum pressure from the get-go; accurate and impressive bowling from Troy Byrne 2/11), Oscar Dagg (0/3) and Chase Gilbert (0/11), solid keeping by Jarryn and general fielding saw very few runs scored. It took a bowling change in the 7th to take the first wicket, Davie Saayman (1/3), our other player of the day, with a wicket-maiden. Toby Whitfield (0/6) bowled a nice sharp, awkward ball next and the combined team pressure resulted in a runout. Then again very little scoring from the Saints, with lots of close calls and opportunities led to another runout during another of Toby’s overs. Very next ball from Will Rector (1/22) saw the catch of the game by Troy with a low falling grab with his left. That felt like the game was done and dusted in that moment and it proved to be true, with Saints struggling to get runs. Big Dan Mullen (1/13) took one in the 18th and then Troy and Jarryn terrorized the tail taking another four wickets between them and West taking a nice keepers catch, finished off with a runout to close it out; Blues 8/168 def Saints 10/93.

U14 DCC Whites V St Mary's Blues

It was a still and overcast morning at the Dunsborough hard wicket and a perfect day for cricket with the Saint’s Blues and the Dunsborough Whites facing off. Saint Mary’s won the toss and sent us into bat on a morning preferably for bowling. We opened up with Jack Wrathall and Isaac Beetson for his last week of cricket for the season. The boys got off to a great start with a 33 run partnership against a strong bowling attack. Throughout the innings the boys kept up the tight running and strong partnerships. Special mentions to Isaac Beetson 40* off 40, James Jackson with 51* off 32 and Jack Henderson putting the runs on at the tail end of the innings finishing on 28* off 30, ending with a well defendable total of 6-168.

We took the field with great energy knowing we had a great shot at this match with Hudson Williams and Beau Bromley opened up with the new ball both keeping it tight. The boys kept the great bowling up throughout the innings to some great batsmen and bowling into some strong wind. Stand out bowling efforts with Noah Haynes finishing with 2-9 after 4, both our opening bowlers, Beau Bromley with 0-7 off 3, and Hudson Williams with 0-12 off 3. At the end we won by 39 runs with great energy heading into tomorrows game against cowie.

U16 DCC Blues V Yobs Orange

16's had a quick ground change to start as Chook thought the turf prep was now moved forward by 3 weeks. So over to the lakes to take on Yobs Orange, where we lost the toss and bowled first.

Yobs got off to a steady start, where our bowling wasn't bad, only a few loose ones, but our fielding was well below par on a fast outfield.

Out of our 5 wickets, 4 of them were bowled and 1 was LBW, showing if you threw the bat at it, you were likely to score.
Will Jaspar hit a nice 87 until Rame clean ripped him, proving we should have bought him on earlier. We restricted them to 166 which was probably a par score on that ground.

Pick of the bowlers were C. Marsden 2 overs 2 for 13, T, Dunning 3 overs 1 for 12, O. Nimmo 2 overs 1 for 11.

Our batting innings saw Ky South get us off to a solid start with a nice 25, Cooper with his best innings this season of 23, then our new Ice-Man Toby Dunning nearly single handedly getting us across the line with a fine 62 Not out of 34 balls, including 18 runs off the last over.

The win would have been doable if not for the 20 runs left in the field, and shows how important it is to work on your fielding as much as batting and bowling.

T. Dunning 62*, K. South 25, C. King 23.

OUR U14 AND U16 TEAMS THEN TOOK TO THE FIELD AGAIN ON SUNDAY TO MAKE UP FOR A BYE WEEKEND BACK IN NOVEMBER

U14 Blues vs Yobs

Toss won against and the boys chose to bat on a glorious day at home. Oscar Dagg (44*) and Troy Byrne (40) opened and set the tone, both boys retiring after blasting the yobs’ bowlers around the park. Nice contributions from Davie Saayman (15*), Will Rector (25*), West Lepidi (25) and Jarryn South (30*) pushed the score to a healthy 3/204.

With plenty of runs on the board, the boys went straight for the jugular. Fast and furious pace from Jarryn South (3/2) and accurate length bowling from Dan Mullen (2/6) saw stumps in the dumps and Yobs on the back foot again. Debutant Dallas South (2/3) took his first U14 scalps and showed us how deep the cricketing talent runs in the South household. He was well supported by other youngling Quinn Rector at the other end. Davie Saayman (2/7) then did what he’s done all season and snatched a couple more, with Oscar Dagg picking up an early one. Troy Byrne finishing up another fantastic game by keeping nicely the whole innings and taking a classic keepers catch off Jarryn. Yobs going down: Blues 3/204 def Yobs 10/50.

Looks like finals are calling after all and with the team at full strength they have a chance.

U14 Whites V Cowaramup

It was a crisp Sunday morning down in Cowaramup with a tight matchup between the Cowaramup Bulls and The Mighty Dunsborough Whites with both teams coming off strong wins the day before. The Whites won the toss and elected to bat first thanks with seemed to be a pretty good choice from captain Jack Henderson.

We opened the game up with power hitting Owen Lawrence-Brown and Noah Haynes who continues to show great form. Cricket was not on our side for the first 10 overs with 4 wickets coming from them. To the rescue was Noah and Patch who had a great 40 run partnership to bring the game back into our reach. With the innings coming to place allowed Isaac Beetson (Pictured) to finish on 50* off 49 for his last game of the season, Jack with 43* off 31 with 9 boundaries batting well as always.

Special mentions to Noah Haynes with a splendid opening knock against great bowlers with 32 off 20 smashing 7 fours, and patch O’Brien with a career high score with 36 off 49. Terrific effort from Will O’Brien and Charlie Jackson who played up for us who had to go out to bat in tough conditions against kids who were 4-5 years older. After a not so promising start we put on a great total of 8-200 thanks to some great innings.

We took the field for a session of bowling and fielding with our heads high with Jack Henderson opening the bowling taking 2-0 off 2 overs with Isaac putting that pressure on with 1-6 off 4. It was pretty special as we had three sibling play ups in the field who did a great job with a catch taken by Will. Charlie and Will bowled well with Charlie taking 1-5 off 3 and Will 0-14 off 3. Once again Noah Haynes taking wickets as usual with 2-13 off 3. It’s was an overall great effort with nearly everyone taking a wicket against a good batting lineup. Special Mention to Samuel Jackson who fielded the whole 30 overs terrifically saving a couple boundaries. At the end of the day we and a comfortable win by 77 runs and now looking forward for the last game of the regular season.

U16 DCC Blues V St Mary's

Another Lakes Gabba pitch and we were again sent out to bowl first on a lovely Sunday morning against the Saints.

Again the fast outfield proved to reward a flay of the bat, but our fielding was a complete turn around from the day before.
Boundaries were being chased down, bodies were thrown around to save runs and throws were far better, which showed at the completion of the 20.

Alfie Culnane hit a well timed 60 not out, and we only took 4 wickets showing how friendly it is for batting over there at the precinct.

Lachie bowled a clean spell, one of his finest for the season, backed up by Southy, Mason and Rame who all bowled tight to keep them to an under par score of 142.
L. Ingle 4 overs 1 for 22, C. King 2 overs 1 for 16, S. Siney 2 overs 1 for 16.

Ky South then got us off to another solid start with 23 until holing out in the deep, Lachie with a fine all round game with 38, then to bring us home again the Ice-Man Dunning nailed another 59 Not out off 49 balls.

Mason and Sam our Mr fill in, sealed the deal at the end with Toby to cap a nice all round effort to notch a solid win finishing up with 163.

T. Dunning 59*, L. Ingle 38, K, South 23.

With 2 x weekends off, we'll finish in the finals, after a solid season with 7 wins and 4 losses. Lets go Blues!

ROUND 11 WRAP UP

Stage 1 DCC Whites (162) vs Margaret River Hawks Green (70)

A warm day on a dry and dusty Dunsy Primary school oval that was showing signs of damage from Skippy and his mates.
After a quick warm up that included showing the boys how to fill in the roo holes we had the bat toss. Hawks called heads which had everyone confused and laughing. Another toss followed with Captain Makai Coltrinari (pictured) winning and deciding to bowl first.

A solid start by the Hawks saw them with 32 on the board without loss after 6 overs. Then all hell broke loose, Makai took a hat-trick with the first 3 balls of the 7th over. All bowled, with the hat-trick ball an absolute peach that swung in behind the batsman to take out leg stump. A 3 wicket maiden. The team was up an about, celebrating the 4th hat-trick of the season for the Whites.
In comes Jake "Knuckles" Mullen with his new and improved bowling action for the 8th over, starting with 3 dot balls, Jake then takes 2 consecutive wickets to also be on a hat-trick.

Unfortunately he didn't get it but another handy 2 wicket maiden.
Will O'Brien bowls a jaffa first ball of the 9th over to once again rock the stumps. Followed by another couple of dots and then 2 more wickets to also be on a hat-trick. Another dot ball means a 3 wicket maiden for Will. 8 wickets for 0 runs off the last 3 overs has the teams on level scores.

Koa Hopkinson let the flood gates open with 1 bye in the last over before drinks to have Hawks in the lead. Beau, Spencer, Will and Jack all took one wicket each after drinks and Makai took another 2 in the final over, finishing with 5/9 off 4 overs. An impressive display of bowling with all 14 wickets hitting the stumps. Our training was starting to pay off.

After the break the Whites didn't let up with an even spread of runs. Will top scored with 19 followed by Koa with 15.

A great response after getting comprehensively beaten by Cowaramup last week.

The boys are looking forward to Thursday nights game against DCC Blues.

It was a hot day in the sun for the Dunsborough Derby and my boys felt the heat DCC Whites (7/134) were defeated by DCC Blues (2/192). Written by DJCC Whites!

The Blues won the toss and sent us into bat, although we lost an early wicket the whites batting was not that bad it was the tight bowling from the Blues and great fielding that kept the whites from making runs. We had 7 retirees making it through their first lot of allocated balls then returning back to bat later. It was pleasing to see the boys not giving up their wickets easily. James Conn (12 Runs of 19 Balls Not Out) was our top scorer with Mat Watson (11Runs of 15 Balls Not Out), Ned Duffield (10 Runs of 19 Balls) and Leo Chapman (10 Runs of 18 Balls Not Out) our other top contributors. Special mention to our smallest players Jack Pusey (1 Run of 24 Balls) and Huxley Partridge (3 Runs of 20 Ball Not Out) although they didn’t put the runs on the scoreboard but they stood up to some hostile bowling and proved hard to budge with a lot of courage shown. I thought our score was reasonable at the end and I was pleased with they way the boys batted.

Our turn to bowl and the heat rose, not only with the temperature, but the Blues batting. We bowled well but the blues batting was strong, our fielding was good and our bowling pretty accurate with Huxley Partridge (1 for 10 of 2 Overs) taking a wicket and throwing himself around the field saving runs he took a good catch and nearly pulling his second with a great diving attempt. Ned Duffield WK (1 for 11 of 2 Overs) was our other wicket taker. The blues did have some luck with balls dropping short from being caught but to the blues credit they picked the gaps well and when they did it was generally a boundary. Also we gave 61 runs as extras which hurt so that’s something we will work on at training.

Again the game was played in great spirit as always and what’s so pleasing is Dunsborough Junior Cricket has some great talent coming up through its ranks.

Stage two Blues 2/192 def Whites 7/134 - Written by DJCC Blues!

Our last home hit-out for the year and the second derby clash, with the Blues squaring off against the Whites. Led by Beau Rowell, we won the toss and sent the Whites in to bat. Beau set the tone early, keeping his hot streak rolling, knocking over their opener who chopped on, and finished with tidy figures of 1/4 off his 3. Xavier Phelan was absolute class with the ball, sending down three tight overs for 2/1. He gave the bats nothing, built pressure all day and after a couple of half chances finally snaffled a caught and bowled before cleaning one up straight through the gate.

Ethan Smith pulled off a screamer in the deep off Finn Sapwell’s bowling, while Judah Baker chimed in with a couple of handy wickets as we kept the Whites to 134.

A tricky chase of 135, the boys produced our most complete batting performance of the season. After a few starts and soft dismissals throughout the year, it all finally clicked. The openers laid a solid platform, with Finn Sapwell finding his groove again after a lean patch, finishing 21* and looking composed. Beau Rowell brought his usual aggressive intent, racing to 21* as well.

The development in Finlay Brejnak and Ethan Smith (17*) has been unreal to watch, both posting their best scores. Finlay led the charge with a commanding 30* off 20, clean striking and running hard between the wickets. Judah Baker was equally assured, finishing 26* in a classy knock.

A dominant day with the willow saw us cruise to 2/192, wrapping up a cracking win and signing off our last home game in style.

U14 Blues vs Saints

Toss lost and sent into bat- Oscar Dagg (35) punished them in the first over with four 4s and both openers looked solid. Then Davie Saayman fell to a peach in the 4th over that took the top of off. Toby Whitfield looked good for his 8 but was caught midfield. Then wickets fell steadily until West Lepidi (31) took a stand with Will Rector (14). The boys eventually all out 8/110.

A small target to defend meant the boys were going to need to be tight. Again some short and loose bowling let Saints accumulate easy runs, despite some moments of greatness from all the Blues players- with most players taking a wicket each, fielding well and West Lepidi’s wicket keeping it’s usual high standard. Dan Mullen with a nice catch, Oscar Dagg the pick of the bowlers 2/9 off 5. Unfortunately there weren’t enough runs on the board and the Saints made the target in the 21st over, finishing 7/147 off 27 overs.

U16 Blues V Yobs Black

16’s played at Barnard and were lucky enough to get to bat first. Mason and Ashton got us away with some great shots, unfortunately both leaving the middle handing out some catching practice. Rame forgot where the crease was on his 3rd ball, then Lachie played a well balanced innings to be the anchor to Nimmo’s 27 ball 61.

A solid end to get us to 6/160.

O. Nimmo 61, L. Ingle 43*, M. Smith 14

Our Bowling started well again with Imogen snaring the dangerous wicket of L. Gilbert. After that all the bowlers kept it tight again and shared the wickets around. Cooper got a couple with some Mrs Mac’s, Lachie finished the lower order off with some slow stuff before they trudged off all out for 90.
C. King 2-5 off 2, L. Ingle 2-13 off 1.3, I. King 1-9 off 2.
Another solid win at the pointy end of the season.

ROUND 10 WRAP UP

Stage 1 Blues v St Mary’s
Many thanks to Jarrad Sherborne for coaching this week and providing the game report.

Thanks everyone for Saturday’s game. Seemed we started a little sleepy but found our mojo eventually.

Saints won the toss and elected to field. Jacques and Harry opened the batting. We lost a few early wickets due to some great bowling which at times we tried to hit to the boundary. We learned our lesson and started to keep the good ones out which helped the team settle. Some good shots and running between wickets from Jacques and Harry

Mitch Henry again showed some great shots through the off side with some great cover drives.

Enter the big hitting Charlie who again walloped a few nice strokes. We found the outfield to be very slow and learned the lesson to keep running until the umpire signals.

Dallas and River S came in at the end and batted strongly driving us to a score of 127. Dallas top scoring with 33 with Charlie and river making 14 each.

We had to work hard in the field, Saints were very focused on blocking the good balls which we bowled a lot of.

River Farrow stoically took the gloves to be keeper although carrying a sore back.

Everyone bowled well, our bad balls are becoming fewer each week and our good balls are getting better. Mitch Henry lead the wickets taking with 2 wickets with some consistent line and length.

Jacques showed some amazing effort in the field, throwing himself at everything, almost taking 2 screamers. Speaking of screamers, the 2 Rivers both took a great catch each. River F with a great juggling effort to a fast moving ball at point and River S with a great catch in the deep at Long on off Mitch’s bowling.

Harry showed some great skills with the gloves in the second 10 overs. His voice in the field also a highlight.

Awards to Mitch for some beautiful batting and bowling (all round great game), and River F for displaying resilience and dedication on the day.

Stage Two Blues 8/121 def Hawks Gold S2 4/120

Blues Win a Thriller!

Led by skipper Toby DeMan, the Blues headed down to Margs to take on Hawks Gold and finally had some luck go their way at the toss, electing to send the Hawks in.

Much like last week, the Blues got off to a tidy start with the ball, bowling good areas and keeping the runs on a tight leash. The early morning wake-up clearly did the trick, with the boys switched on and sharp in the field, pouncing on every opportunity.

Finlay Brejnak’s unconventional action once again caused headaches for the batters, removing the Hawks opener with his first ball of the innings and going on to finish with an impressive 2/15 off 3 overs. Finn Sapwell enjoyed his best day with the ball, claiming 1/10 off 3 overs, highlighted by a beauty of an outswinger that bowled a right-hander behind his legs ripping out the middle stump.

Behind the stumps, Xavier Phelan was outstanding, keeping things tight and only allowing 6 byes for the innings — a massive contribution in what turned out to be a one-run result.

Chasing 121 for victory, the Blues got off to a solid start with Beau Rowell finally finding some form at the top after a couple of quiet weeks, opening the batting and making a composed 15. River Dennis played his most confident innings to date; while he’s scored more in the past, this knock put real pressure on the Hawks bowlers, including a couple of well-timed boundaries on his way to 12.

Ethan Smith’s hard work is clearly starting to pay dividends. After what must have been a huge summer in the backyard, he looked full of confidence, smashing a couple of boundaries before being undone by one that stayed low, finishing with his top score šŸ™ŒJudah Baker anchored the innings under pressure, scratching his way to a gritty top score of 17 and becoming the final dismissal.

In a tense finish, both teams shook hands unsure of the final result. While the Blues were probably on top for most of the day, we were relieved (and a little lucky) to come away with a hard-fought one-run win in a cracking game of junior cricket.

Stage 2 DCC Whites V Yallingup Oddbods

With a full team of 12 the DCC Whites (4/115) were defeated by the Yallingup Oddbods (8/137) in a very close game.

At one stage we needed one wicket to win with 4 overs and 10 runs left but the Yallingup Oddbods eventually overran us in what was a very good game to watch. Both teams played to there full potential with all skills on show.

We won the toss and elected to bat. Having 12 players meant each batsman could only face 15 balls until retirement to allow everyone a chance to bat. If you retired then this allowed you to come back in if wickets fall. The Yallingup boys bowled well but found it difficult to get wickets, we ended up with 7 of our boys retiring only 3 got to bat again with limited overs left. Matt Watson (17 runs of 27 Balls) was our top scorer with James Conn (16 runs of 20 Balls Not Out) close second, Ned Duffield (10 runs of 12 Balls) and Alex Tscheuschler (11 runs of 16 Balls) making double figures. Unfortunately a combination of poor running between the wickets where we missed a lot of opportunities to take runs and good fielding from the opposition restricted us posting a higher total but I was pleased that we still only lost 4 wickets for the innings.

Our turn to bowl and although we were taking wickets regularly they had a couple of talented batsman who took to a couple of our bowlers and posted good scores against what I thought was good bowling. Our wicket keepers Ned Duffield (1 for 3 off 1.1 Overs) and Leo Chapman (0 for 2 off 2 Overs) not only bowled well but both got 2 catches behind the stumps and kept us in the game. It got close when Matt Watson (2 for 6 off 2 Overs) took a late wicket then Archie Sinclair (2 for 9 off 2 Overs) got two consecutive wickets and was on a hat-trick for the last wicket stand and the excitement rose but we just could get over the line. Still, well played by my boys and as always great sportsmanship was on display by both teams.

U14 Blues vs Margs Gold

Toss won and Margs sent in to bat. A bit short on players saw youngster Cade Bootland play his first game of club cricket and Will Rector take on the keeping responsibility for the first 15 overs for his first time. A bit of loose bowling to begin with gave Margs a good start and then they put on a batting clinic. Despite the Blues putting in a good effort to improve their bowling the scoring continued. A great spell by West Lepidi 2/41 with two clean bowled with two identical deliveries and then a pretty good (unfortunately unsuccessful) effort for the hat-trick looked like giving us a chance. Good bowling contributions from Davie Saayman 2/29 and Toby Whitfield 2/37 saw more wickets fall but relentless batting saw Margs reach 6/242.

The boys tried to be positive and opener Will Rector made a solid 17 before falling caught off a miss-cue. The ever reliable Oscar Dagg (22) looked good but also holed-out trying to push the scoring. Enter West Lepidi, with a win all but impossible, he showed a class of batting and big hitting that saw him make 50 before retiring. He was back shortly after the dismissal of brave debutant Cade who made his first run. West then upped the ante and made it seem as though the unwinnable was maybe winnable. His first CENTURY of the season was a thing of cricketing beauty. He ran out of deliveries finishing on an impressive 115* with the boys falling short at 7/207.

Another big effort from the Blues, beaten by some amazing batting by the Hawks Gold.

U14 DCC Whites V Hawks Green

Today we took on the dangerous hawks gold at the Dunsborough playing fields, We won the toss and batted first. We opened with Owen and Tom, who saw off the new ball and some very good opening bowling, both retiring not out. Their good bowling continued and our middle order found the runs hard to come by, it was down to our lower order. Isaacs batting continues to improve and his 43 run a ball partnership with Jack finished off the innings really well on 6/124, special mention to Noah for doing the team thing and pushing for every last run.

We came out ready to defend our 124, opening with Noah and patch, who bowled nice and tight with Patch delivering a ripper hitting top of leg stump. We continued the good bowling and the game was in the balance, until one of the best batters in the league started smacking it around and they ended up chasing it down with 2 overs left, finishing on 7/140. To restrict a really good batting side to 140 was a great effort, with Beau taking 2/14 off 3, Isaac another run out, and good catches from Jack W, Owen, Tom, and new keeper James. We learnt a bit from the loss and we’ll train hard this week with only 4 games left before finals. Great effort Whites.

U16 DCC Blues V Vasse

Playing the under gunned Vasse team at BP2 on a decent wicket saw us bat first on a fresh morning.

Cody and Henry got us off to a solid run a ball start to 28 before Henry departed. 3 runs later Cody hit a dolly to square leg, which bought together Imogen and Oscar for a 61 run stand of sensible batting by both. These two, dispatched the bad balls and ran very well between wickets. When Oscar holed out in the deep on 39, Toby continued on the partnership with Imogen for another 57 runs of steady batting.

We played a very steady, solid innings throughout to get us only 4 down for 158.

O. Nimmo 39 off 25, T. Dunning 36* off 26, I. King 31 off 45.
The bowling innings was also a story of control and continued the dominant theme for the morning.

Mason started off his opening spell with a wicket on the 3rd ball of the innings, Lexi started with a maiden, then Mason's first ball of the next over was cleaned bowled. From then on the team didn't let up and poor Vasse ended up being bowled out for a total of 53, with only 2 players for Vasse reaching double figures.
Mason and Ashton were both on hat tricks at one stage, Rame came on and threw up some tricky deliveries snaring a couple, and all bowlers were superbly backed up in the field by everyone.
M. Smith 5-3 off 4, A. McCarthy 2-6 off 2, R. Glasspool 2-13 off 2.

It was a clinical display definitely compared to the previous week when everyone was still asleep and rusty from the holidays.
