๐Ÿ”Ž What do cancer specialists do every day to look after their own health?

We came across some interesting insights from three cancer specialists and thought they were worth sharing. While thereโ€™s no guaranteed way to prevent cancer, understanding the factors that can influence cancer risk can help us make informed choices about our health.

And if you or someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, Can Assist is here to help with practical and financial support to make accessing cancer care a little easier.

This post is for general information only and is not medical advice from Can Assist. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes to your diet, lifestyle or healthcare.

Every Can Assist branch has a story.

Meet Leanne. ๐Ÿ‘‹ Leanne is the face of this yearโ€™s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, sheโ€™s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.

Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellieโ€™s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.

๐Ÿ‘ŸThis August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellieโ€™s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sisterโ€™s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.

Maybe you could be the face of next yearโ€™s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?

Thereโ€™s still time for our local community to get behind our branch and help raise funds to support people affected by cancer right here in our community. โค๏ธ Give back locally and donate to our branch today: www.candothedistance.org.au

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ What if 30 people from our community joined Can Do the Distance?

If each person raised just $400 (that's only 10 donations of $40), together we could raise $12,000 to help local people facing cancer through our Can Assist branch.

๐Ÿซ‚ That's the power of our community coming together.

This August, we're inviting our community to take on Can Do the Distance. Can Assist's month-long walking challenge that helps local people with the everyday costs of cancer treatment. You don't have to be a marathon runner, and you don't have to walk every day. Simply choose a distance that suits you, ask your family and friends to support you, and every dollar you raise stays right here in our community.

Your fundraising helps local people with fuel, accommodation, travel, parking, medical expenses and other everyday costs, so they can focus their treatment. Whether you're walking for a loved one, a friend, a neighbour, or simply because you believe in looking after our community, every step makes a real difference.

Registrations are now open. Join our branch, start fundraising today, and walk with us this August.

Dunedoo CanAssist Member Spotlight:
๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating Ann Humphrey ๐ŸŒŸ

Back in May, WNSWLHD shone a well-deserved spotlight on Ann Humphrey, a remarkable member of our Dunedoo CanAssist branch. Ann was honoured with the Nurse of the Year Award for her unwavering dedication to the Dunedoo community, marking over 55 years of an exceptional nursing career.

Throughout her career, Ann has exemplified what it means to truly care for her patients. Her commitment goes far beyond typical nursing duties; she consistently goes the extra mile, ensuring that every individual receives the compassionate care they deserve. If Ann seeโ€™s a need, sheโ€™ll undoubtedly do something about it!
Her proactive approach and tireless work ethic have made a significant impact on the lives of just about every person- young and old (plus their furry companions ๐Ÿ•) in our community.

We are incredibly proud to have Ann as part of our Dunedoo CanAssist team. Her passion and dedication inspire us all to strive for excellence in our own roles. Congratulations, Ann, on this well-deserved recognition! Your hard work and commitment to the Dunedoo community do not go unnoticed. ๐Ÿ’–

Letโ€™s all take a moment to celebrate Ann and the incredible contributions she continues to make! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

Who will you walk for this August? ๐Ÿ’š

Not every cancer journey starts in a hospital. For our people, it starts with hours on the road.

That's why we're looking for people in our community to take on Can Do the Distance this August and help ensure no one faces cancer alone.

When you join Can Do the Distance, you're doing more than logging steps. Every dollar you raise goes directly back to our local Can Assist branch, helping local people facing cancer with the practical costs of treatment: fuel, accommodation, travel, parking and other everyday expenses.

Whether you're walking in memory of someone, beside someone, or to make sure no one in our community has to face cancer alone, every step has purpose.

The best part? Your impact stays local. The funds you raise help people in our own community, when they need it most.

Register today, start fundraising now, and walk with us this August.

๐Ÿ’š Can Do the Distance Registrations are now open.

Too many people don't discover Can Assist until they're already in crisis. This August, let's change that.

Join our branch and help raise funds and awareness, so more of our people know support is available before the financial pressure of cancer becomes overwhelming.

๐Ÿ’ฒEvery dollar you raise stays with our branch, helping local people with the everyday costs of treatment: fuel, accommodation, travel, parking, medical expenses and more.

You don't need to be the fastest. You don't need to walk the furthest. You just need to take the first step to help make Can Assist visible in our community, because every person who hears about Can Assist today is one more person who knows where to turn tomorrow.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Walk for someone you love. Walk for a friend. Walk for a neighbour. Walk because no one in our community should face cancer alone.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sign up, select our branch and let's do the distance together: https://www.candothedistance.org.au/
