The Dry Run

31/10/2025

The dusty roads led us to small towns and a much-needed coffee break. We were pretty chuffed to have our travel mugs along for the ride.

The generosity of organisations and businesses backing this trip speaks volumes—it echoes our message loud and clear: you are not alone.

Dry Run was just the beginning. We’re still here. When you need us.

If you see us on the road, say hi. If you need a chat, reach out. And if you want to help us keep showing up—share our story, support the mission, or simply remind someone: they’re not alone either.

Support is available.

🌾 That’s a wrap on The Dry Run Roadshow!

Eight towns. Countless conversations.
And one powerful reminder — resilience starts with connection. 💬🤝

From Walgett to Mt Hope, communities across the Far West came together to share stories, learn practical tools, and remind each other that we’re stronger when we face change side by side.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us along the way — from local councils and services to sponsors, hosts, and every single person who showed up to yarn, listen, and laugh.

Special thanks to our partners and supporters — NALAG, RAMHP, FFS, RDA Orana, Inland Petroleum, Little Big Dairy Co., Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Lazy Oak Vineyard, and so many more, who made this journey possible.

This isn’t the end — it’s the beginning of stronger, more connected communities across the Far West. 🌅

To every attendee, volunteer, and supporter — thank you!

Your energy, stories, and kindness brought The Dry Run to life.
Together, we’ve built something stronger than any dry spell: connection. 🤝

🌾 As The Dry Run wraps up, here’s what we’ve learned — together.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve travelled across four LGAs, meeting incredible people, sharing stories, and building stronger, more connected communities.

🎥 Watch our 60-second wrap to see the journey — and the impact — The Dry Run has made across NSW.

We couldn’t have picked a better spot to finish up the Dry Run than the Mount Hope Pub. With a tiny population but a huge sense of community, we had a brilliant night connecting with locals and travellers alike.

You just never know where people are at—and sometimes, a quick pub feed and a chat on the way through is all it takes to start a conversation that matters. It’s in those small moments that support begins.

So when you need us, you don’t have to go looking—we’re already here. And we’ve been here for nearly 50 years.

Finding Hope in Hard Times: Rob McGorman — former rural financial counsellor and current President of NALAG. Growing up on a sheep station near Mount Hope, Rob learned early about resilience, isolation, and the strength of community.

Rob shares powerful reflections on grief, resilience, and connection, drawing from his work supporting rural communities through drought and crisis, and his involvement with NALAG after the tragic Mudgee train accident.

Country hospitality really is next level—and when the Dry Run team got an invite for tea and scones at the iconic , we didn’t hesitate to say yes.

It was a spread straight out of Graziher magazine: antique cups and saucers, fresh scones, cream and homemade jam - all the trimmings. Our host, Samantha, was a breath of fresh country air. She and her husband run the sheep station and WikiCamps-listed stopover.

If you’re out and about near Louth, look them up—you won’t regret it.

And here’s a gentle reminder: sometimes all it takes is an invite for a cuppa and a good ear when times are tough. Call your neighbour. Check on your mate. It can be lonely in the bush, but connection makes all the difference.

Remember you don't have to go through grief alone. Contact NALAG Grief support to join a supportive community and find comfort in times of grief.

💬 From the land, for the land — what a journey it’s been.

As The Dry Run wraps up tonight in Mt Hope, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, shared stories, cooked a snag, or lent a hand. 🌾

These gatherings remind us that:

Real strength doesn’t come from pamphlets — it comes from people.

Together, we’ve shown what community preparedness looks like: honest, practical, and full of heart.

🤝 Here’s to strong connections, ready minds, and communities that get ahead of the dry — side by side.
