From Dubbo to Germany and back again – what an incredible journey!

This week, members and guests of Rotary Club of Dubbo South were captivated by the stories of our 2025 outbound Youth Exchange student, Sabrina Jones, as she shared the highlights of her unforgettable year in Germany.

From experiencing snow for the very first time to cycling to school like a local student, Sabrina embraced every opportunity that came her way. She arrived during a month-long festival celebration, immersed herself in German culture, explored breath-taking landmarks including the magnificent Cologne Cathedral, and travelled throughout Europe, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Italy, Germany, new friendships, new perspectives and countless adventures – Sabrina's passion for travel was obvious as she reflected on the people and places that helped shape her exchange experience.

Perhaps most impressively, Sabrina returned home fluent in German – a remarkable achievement and a testament to her courage, determination and willingness to step outside her comfort zone.

Youth Exchange isn't just about travel; it's about building confidence, understanding different cultures and developing skills that last a lifetime.

Thank you, Sabrina, for sharing your journey with us. You have been an outstanding ambassador for Australia and for Rotary Dubbo South, and we can't wait to see where your next adventure takes you.

Rotary Youth Exchange truly changes lives.

Sixty posts for sixty years? No, this is it! We'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey.

To our members past and present, our families, supporters, sponsors, community partners and friends – thank you for six decades of friendship, service, generosity and fun.

Over the years we've raised millions of dollars for organisations including Macquarie Home Stay and the RFDS Dubbo Support Group, supported countless community projects and created lifelong friendships along the way. Not bad for a group of volunteers who meet for a meal and occasionally get distracted by a raffle, an auction, a road trip or a tall story!

A special thank you to Lazy River Estate for hosting our 60th Anniversary Long Lunch. The venue was outstanding, the hospitality exceptional and the meal absolutely superb.

Most importantly, thank you to the Dubbo and Orana community for the amazing support over the years.

Here's to another 60 years and more of friendship, fellowship, service and making a difference.

We were delighted to welcome Dubbo Mayor Josh Black to our 60th Anniversary Long Lunch last weekend as we celebrated six decades of service, fellowship and community impact.

Josh spoke warmly and generously about the extraordinary contribution Rotary Dubbo South has made over the years, particularly through our long-standing support of Macquarie Home Stay and the RFDS Dubbo Support Group. His comments were a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when passionate people come together with a shared commitment to supporting regional communities.

For 60 years, our members have worked hard to raise funds, provide practical support and strengthen connections across Dubbo and beyond — all while enjoying the friendship and fellowship that Rotary is built on.

Thank you Mayor Josh Black for joining us and for your kind words and encouragement.

It was wonderful to welcome local member Dugald Saunders to our 60th Anniversary Long Lunch on Saturday as we celebrated six decades of service, fellowship and community impact.

Dugald spoke warmly about the extraordinary contribution our club has made to the Dubbo community over many years, particularly through our support of Macquarie Home Stay and the local Royal Flying Doctor Service. His kind words recognised the millions of dollars raised by generations of dedicated members and supporters, and the very real difference those funds continue to make for families across regional and remote communities.

While the achievements are significant, what continues to make our club special is the spirit in which everything is done — with friendship, fun, generosity and a genuine passion for helping others.

If you’d like to better understand the fellowship, connection and satisfaction of service that Rotary offers, we’d love to welcome you to a meeting. [email protected]
