Full members receive all current benefits, including publishing their work on our website and being listed as a local writer.
Associate members are demonstrating support for the work of OWC and are included in all OWC information distributions but are not entitled to present their work at Hub Meetings, publish their work on our website or be included in our listing of local writers.

Writers Workshops

The Outback Writers Centre is proud to continue our 2026 series of writing workshops. The first workshop, presented by Nisaba, was very successful, leading us through the process of Writing to prompts, but not being limited by them.

The next workshop is on February 7th. 2026, presented by an experienced and published author, on the topic of Editing your own work.

We aim to give local writers opportunities to extend their creative, critical, and technical skills. Each workshop will cover a different aspect of the writing process.

There will be six workshops in 2026, each designed to support local writers in the development of their writing skills. They are free, and open to all writers, and are held in the Music Room at Western Plains Cultural Centre on the first Saturday of each month at 10am.

The upcoming workshop dates are
February 7th. 2026
March 7th. 2026
April 4th. 2026
May 2nd. 2026
June 6th. 2026

Writers Hub meeting
Our next Writers Hub meeting is on Saturday, February 7th., 2026, at 10.00am in the Music Room, at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
This month, the theme is Unbelievable.

As always, the first half of the meeting is for reading and critiquing pieces shorter than 300 words, written to the theme of the month. For those unfamiliar with this process - you read your work to the group, and we offer comments based only on the techniques and principles of writing, not the subject-matter, all in the spirit of helping people to improve their writing.
If you want to present your work, please bring some printed copies so that the rest of us can follow it on the page. You can come along with work to read, or without, and participate in thinking about writing.

The second half of the meeting is an opportunity for writers to present longer pieces. Again, please have some printed copies for the visual learners amongst us. The workshop will start after this.

As a friendly group of writers, we welcome new and not so new writers.
