Agapanthus, morning glory or gazanias might be easy-growing plants in your home but their invasive nature can damage your garden and the environment. Here's what experts recommend.

This evening the ladies of our Branch were rostered on to cater at Macquarie Home Stay. We donned our glad rags, cooked up some tried and true dishes and - hopefully - gave the clients a filling and satisfying meal complete with ice cream, custard, apple crumble and pavlova roll for dessert!!!

Just a little reminder, in these crazy times, that someone is happy. 😊💖 Breeding season has definitely begun for the Glossy Black Cockatoo, one of our local threatened species. Dry conditions have brought some of these charismatic birds out of their bushland hideaways, and almost every day some are gathering at our pottery dam and even near the homestead. Imagine our surprise and delight when a pair came and sat in a nearby gum tree, making interesting and unusual sounds. Next minute the male was feeding the female, and before we knew it they were loving each other in a very special way. 💖The light was too poor for photographs but we had a great view through binoculars, a fascinating display of love and affection from these gorgeous, monogamous creatures.
At the moment several Glossy Blacks are coming to the dam every evening, and it’s great weather for camping! So if you need some peace and quiet, with beautiful birdlife, great food and coffee close by, check out our website. 😊 https://www.pilligapottery.com.au

We have started having a dinner at our meetings - last night we started with Fish & Chips. Seems to be a great way to encourage members to attend (who wants to be at home with “someone” wandering around saying “what’s for dinner?”!!) and gives us some unstructured interaction time.

We then cleared our social meal and started the meeting with Kath Readford (VP) chairing as President Ruth Shanks was otherwise engaged. Whilst we went through the agenda we also stuffed and sewed more breast cancer cushions to make sure our supply for the Dubbo Breast Cancer clinic was in order.

Great meeting ladies!

Agapanthus are pretty and popular, but many home gardeners are surprised by how easily they can spread. 🌱

Many older varieties self-seed and form dense clumps, gradually overtaking smaller native shrubs and ground-covers, crowding out native plants and contributing to bushfire conditions.

Luckily, there are stunning native alternatives that still deliver on colour, shape and toughness - while supporting bees, birds and biodiversity.

Here are some simple swaps:
