What a great way to kick off Tri 2! 🦈✨

Last week we held our first meeting of the trimester and had the pleasure of welcoming our co-founder, Aliah, who shared her expertise in underwater photography and all her favourite Lightroom editing tips and tricks.

A huge thank you to Aliah for an awesome workshop! 📸

Our next meeting won’t be until August, but we have some exciting things planned in the meantime, so keep an eye on our socials for updates!

See you soon!

Still trying to put into words how special our first ever FINstitute shark research expedition was 🦈💙

When we started planning this trip, we had one goal: create the kind of opportunity we always wished existed.

A place where ocean lovers, students, divers, and aspiring scientists could come together to not only experience these incredible animals underwater, but learn about the research, conservation, and science happening behind the scenes.

And somehow… it became even more than we imagined 🥹

A HUGE thank you to our incredible science lead Luca , who poured so much passion into creating and delivering the shark science workshops throughout the expedition. Thank you for sharing your expertise, your journey, and your contagious love for these animals with our group 🦈

We were also lucky enough to have two amazing guest speakers join us along the way — Aahil🪼 from The Manta Trust and Dr. Diego Cardeñosa Diego Cardeñosa . Thank you both for sharing your knowledge, experiences, and the incredible work you are doing for our oceans.

And of course, the biggest thank you to ANSAARU , Hanto , and the entire teams at Pelagic Divers Fuvahmulah Pelagic Divers Fuvahmulah and APEX FUVAHMULAH for keeping us safe, making us feel at home, and giving us the most unforgettable experience.

To our first expedition crew… thank you for trusting a young organisation with a big idea 💙

Round 2 is already in the works 👀

Here it is our first meeting for Tri 2… and we couldn’t be more excited!

Monday, 15th June at 5:15 PM | Building 506-117

Both our speakers will be joining us online, so for those of you who can’t make it to campus, you can join us online too, we’ll share the link on the day!

We’ll be hearing from the incredible Kori Burkhardt, co-founder of the Ma’o Mana Foundation, who will be sharing how the foundation is working to protect the sharks of French Polynesia through initiatives such as ”Project Parata” 🦈

Next, our very own co-founder Aliah will be taking us through an underwater photography crash course in Adobe Lightroom, teaching us how to transform raw UW images into professional-looking photos 📸

If you’d like to follow along with Aliah’s session, make sure to bring your laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed and if you don’t have it yet, you can sign up for a free 7-day trial!

As always, snacks will be provided! We can’t wait to see you all there! 🌊

Applications are now open to join our MantaBase Data Transcription Team!

Data transcription may not be the most glamorous work, but it’s a crucial part of marine research and conservation because at the end of the day, data is only meaningful when it is used!

This team will be helping expedite the data transcription process so we can help the Manta Trust get this program up and running so that it can be used for conservation and research to help our manta rays 🩵

Apply with the link in our bio. Must be a FINstitute member to apply🦈
