Applications are now open to join our MantaBase Data Transcription Team!

Data transcription may not be the most glamorous work, but it’s a crucial part of marine research and conservation because at the end of the day, data is only meaningful when it is used!

This team will be helping expedite the data transcription process so we can help the Manta Trust get this program up and running so that it can be used for conservation and research to help our manta rays 🩵

Last week we had our final meeting of Tri 1…
and it was so good, we’re still thinking about it! 🦈✨

We kicked things off with an incredible talk from Dr. Leanne Currey-Randall, exploring big elasmo data, from Australia-wide BRUVs to global projects like Global FinPrint and IMOS and what this means for shark and ray conservation.

We then heard from Oliver Scheele, who is using drones around Maggie to reveal a side of sharks rarely seen, and how we can better manage and coexist with them.

A huge thank you to our speakers and everyone who came along this trimester… but don’t worry we’re not done just yet…

🦈 The JCU Shark Symposium 2026 is happening April 10

We’re currently calling for abstracts, if you have elasmobranch research you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you.
Not presenting? Registrations are also open for attendees.
