Final day of the Drive 4x4 the Doc road survey — and what a way to finish.

Today’s leg took us out across country that usually stretches dry and endless, like the Mundi Mundi Plain — a place known for its vast, red, desert horizon. But this time, it told a completely different story. The landscape was alive. Greens pushing through the earth, wildflowers scattered across the plains, a rare and beautiful transformation that stopped us in our tracks more than once.

Yet woven through that beauty were reminders of the season that shaped it. The tracks we followed carried the scars of recent flooding — washed-out sections and the unmistakable water trails cutting across the land. It’s a striking contrast: renewal and damage side by side. A powerful reminder of how quickly this country can change, and how resilient it is.

We rolled into Silverton as the sun dipped low, dust settling behind us, wrapping up an unforgettable journey across some truly dynamic terrain.

Today’s run took us from Mount Gipps Station out to Packsaddle and back again — and what a contrast the country delivered. Instead of the usual red sands of Outback NSW, we were treated to a surprisingly lush, green landscape that looked absolutely incredible after recent conditions. A rare and beautiful sight out here.

Along the way, we had some fantastic community catch-ups — always a highlight of the journey and a reminder of how strong and welcoming these remote communities are.

One of the standout moments? Watching a full muster in action, with helicopters sweeping across the station as we made our way toward White Cliffs. An unforgettable glimpse into life on the land and the scale of operations out here.

Day 2 – Nichols Point to Mt Gipps Station via Pooncarie Survey for the Drive 4x4 the Doc!

What a day on the tracks! We rolled out from Nichols Point this morning and made our way toward Mt Gipps Station via Pooncarie, and the desert is putting on an absolute show. After the recent rains, everything is bursting with life — a sea of green stretching across country that’s usually red and dusty. It’s a rare and special sight out here.

Driving conditions have been nothing short of fantastic. The tracks are firm, the sand is settled, and the whole route has been a pleasure behind the wheel. It’s the kind of day that reminds you exactly why we do this.

We’re settling in tonight with plenty of stories already stacking up — and we’re only just getting started.

Look out for Day 3!

Day 1 of our Drive 4x4 Doc survey kicked off with a run from Mildura, heading deep into the Murray Sunset National Park.

The transition in landscapes was immediate and striking — wide-open stretches of broad acre farming gradually giving way to the rugged beauty of the national park. Long, straight roads lined with crops and big skies slowly blended into the softer, muted tones of saltbush country.

Out here, the terrain feels alive in a different way. The patchwork of farmland fades into native vegetation, with sandy tracks, low scrub, and that unmistakable outback stillness. It’s a reminder of just how diverse this region is — where agricultural productivity meets untouched natural landscapes.

A solid first day on the tracks, setting the tone for what’s ahead. Plenty more to uncover as we push further into the park.

Meaningful Mondays!!!

Today we’re kicking off a new series that shines a light on the real stories behind our RFDS motoring events — stories like Jobe’s.

Jobe’s story is a powerful reminder of why the RFDS matters. When life changed in an instant, the Flying Doctor was there to provide the critical care, support and reassurance his family needed.

Watch his story: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FV3ytvuKryw

Our incredible participants, donors and supporters help to make it possible for the RFDS to deliver emergency care and essential health services to people living in rural and remote Australia.

Thank you for driving with purpose.

As the dust settles on our 2025 Drive 4x4 The Doc event, we’re filled with gratitude.
To every participant, supporter, volunteer, and partner—thank you.

Your enthusiasm, determination, and generosity turned this year’s journey into something truly unforgettable.

We hope each of you has now made it home safely, carrying with you the memories, friendships, and stories forged along the track.

Your support for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is not just appreciated—it’s vital. Every kilometre travelled, every donation made, and every moment shared helps ensure that essential medical care reaches remote communities that rely on it.

You are the reason this mission continues.

As we pack away the gear and reflect on the incredible moments of 2025, we’re already looking ahead with excitement. If this year showed us what’s possible, we can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together in 2026.

Thank you for driving with purpose, passion, and heart.

Final Day Recap – Drive 4x4 the Doc: Tumbarumba ➜ Batlow ➜ Tumbarumba

What an incredible final day on the tracks! Our journey from Tumbarumba to Batlow and back delivered some of the most breathtaking scenery of the entire drive. Winding our way through the pine plantations and the majestic Bago State Forest, we were treated to sweeping views, fresh mountain air, and that unbeatable feeling of being deep in the high country.

A true highlight of the day was spotting wild brumbies moving quietly through the trees — a special moment that reminded us why these landscapes are so cherished.

We wrapped up the midpoint of our adventure with a beautiful lunch at The Apple Thief, enjoying great food, crisp local cider, and plenty of stories shared around the table.

As we finish this year’s Drive 4x4 the Doc, a heartfelt thank you to all our participants. Your enthusiasm, camaraderie, and support help make this event possible — and most importantly, your generosity goes directly toward supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the vital work they do in our rural communities.

Until next time, safe travels and happy trails!

Drive 4x4 – Day Three Update

Day three took us on an unforgettable run from Corryong to Tumbarumba, with a special stop at the beautiful Braymont Gardens.

We kicked off the morning with a delicious breakfast at Black Sheep Corryong, the perfect spot to fuel up before hitting the road. Our next break was morning tea at the Mt Elliot hang-gliding launch site, where the views were nothing short of incredible—rolling valleys, sweeping hills, and endless alpine scenery.

From there, we continued through some of the region’s most stunning landscapes before arriving at Braymont Gardens for an amazing lunch surrounded by vibrant gardens and fresh mountain air.

The final stretch into Tumbarumba gave us more of those wide-open vistas and winding country roads that make this journey so special. Another brilliant day on the Drive 4x4 adventure!

A big thank you from the RFDS.

We’d like to send a heartfelt thanks to the Bendoc Hotel for their generous donation of an auction prize for Drive 4x4 the Doc. Support like this truly helps keep the event running and makes a real difference to the work we do.

Because of contributions from local legends like the team at the Bendoc Hotel, we’re able to continue delivering essential healthcare to people living in some of the most remote parts of Australia. It’s support we deeply appreciate.

Thank you for getting behind the event and backing the Flying Doctor.
