As the Chair of the Donnybrook Regional Tourism Association (DRTA) I feel it is appropriate to make a statement regarding the recent announcement of reduced funding for the 2025-26 year.
I acknowledge that there has been a voicing of opinions through various mediums on the matter, however, I would like to provide clarity of recent events. Before I do, I want to acknowledge that there is a willingness for a fresh approach and a new start from the Shire president and CEO and a willingness to work collaboratively with the Donnybrook Tourism Association (Visitors Centre) and the community.
The timing of the closure is driven by the roll over of the end of financial year and renewal of annual expense items. Winter is also the low tourism season.
As Chair, we have met with the Shire to explore new opportunities to develop an improved model of operations for the benefit of Donnybrook and the surrounding areas.
The Tourism sector that we operate within looks forward to being involved in the development of an economic and tourism strategy and to working closely with the Shire.
I welcome the current community interest in the Visitors Centre and can say that this level of support would have been appreciated throughout the years and particularly in the past 12 months when we have been calling for volunteers.
The other matter to address is the Station Markets. Despite seeing decline in stall holder numbers and visitors to the markets, there remains a high level of co-ordination and expense. In winding down the Association, this week’s markets will be our final. It is timely to pass the baton and allow another organisation to revitalise the markets concept.
I would like to thank our Co-ordinator, our Committee, and our generous and loyal volunteers and the community who have supported DRTA and Markets over many years.

Vicki Morrell
Chair, Donnybrook Regional Tourism Association.
