The Tasmanian Government is currently undertaking a 'Needs Analysis' of Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania to get a better understanding of the demands on Houses and identify the long-term sustainability needs of the network, which includes us, your local Okines Community House.

📅Closing on June 15th, they are running a 'Community Survey' which takes bout 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed here:

This survey is open to all members of the Tasmanian community, including:
• Community members, volunteers & people who use Neighbourhood Houses
• Local Councils, Government Staff & Community Organisations, &
• Anyone interested in their local community

So please, if you can spare 10 minutes to complete this survey and share it with your friends, this will go a long way to helping our core funders to understand the value, needs and support for our community. 🙏🏡

The 1st Lantern Parade Light Art Workshop - Silhouette Lightboxes is on this Friday June 5th with Michelle Pears starting at 10:30am!

Bring along a box if you can to make your Silhouette Light Box to light up the night, though we will have some available if you don't have one.

Next Thursday we have the Lantern Parade Light Art Workshop - Shadow Puppets workshop with Kathy Hall as well! No need to book for this one, just come along and help make some shadow puppets to the theme of 'Enchanted Wetlands'!

We are only a few weeks away and this awesome community event is only made possible thanks to the help of MANY volunteers.🙏 So if you are able to help out at all (even for an hour or two), please send us a FB msg, pop by for a chat, give us a call at 03 6265 7016 or send an email to Jess at [email protected]

We had a trailer load of kindling donated and dropped off for Community Pantry today, which is FREE and available to collect on the breezeway beside the 24/7 access fridge! We recommend bringing a box or a bag when you come to collect though AND grab some fruit and veg from the fridge too! 🪵🍊🥔🫑🧅🥕

Join us tomorrow (27/05 @ 12pm) for Luna Roo! National Simultaneous Storytime at Okines!

If weather permits, we will be outside in the kids play area, however if its cool and rainy we will be in the Terrapin Room.

No need to book, just come along with the little ones and join in this fun nation wide storytime event! We have some fun activities planned and a few prizes to give away as well!

If you have been thinking about registering for the 1-2-3 Magic & Emotion Coaching parenting course starting next week (Thurs May 28th), please don't wait to register! 🙏 Sadly, if they do not get enough numbers, this course course will not be able to go ahead. 😞

The course run over 3 FREE sessions 10:30am - 12:30pm (Tues May 28th, Tues June 4th & Tues June 11th) designed for parents and carers and covers things like;

✨discipline without arguing, yelling or smacking
✨how to handle challenging behaviour
✨using emotion coaching to encourage good behaviour.
