$1 Million Commitment for the ANMC Community and Cultural Centre
The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) welcomes today's announcement by the Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson MP, of a $1 million commitment towards the ANMC Community and Cultural Centre at 100 Duncans Lane, Diggers Rest, if the Liberal Party forms government at the upcoming Victorian State Election.
Ms Wilson made the announcement at Parliament House, Victoria, with Evan Mulholland MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council and Shadow Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Affairs, other Liberal representatives and Nepalese community leaders.
ANMC President Dr Tilak Pokharel led the community delegation. He briefed the leaders on the issues facing Victoria's Nepali community. These included the need for more covered space at Diggers Rest so the centre can be used all year, recognition of the Nepali community as a distinct group, representation in multicultural advisory structures, and the community's response to the recent floods in Nepal.
The planned centre will include a cultural space, a library and an event hall for families, students, seniors and community groups across the west and north of Melbourne. The design work is complete, and this commitment brings the project a step closer.
ANMC sincerely thanks Ms Wilson, Mr Mulholland and the Victorian Liberal Party for recognising ANMC's work and the contribution of Victoria's Nepalese community.
ANMC will keep working with all sides of politics to strengthen our community and preserve our cultural and spiritual heritage for future generations.
