2024 TAS Quick Response Grant recipient - Maggie Jeffries & George Kennedy

Emerging artists Maggie Jeffries and George Kennedy have just completed their residency in Queenstown where they explored the notion of collaboration and what it meant to create work in conversation, informing and learning from each other’s painting approaches and methodologies.

In the course of their residency that focused on expanding their respective creative practices, additional activities and experiences emerged as they met people in the community, explored this unique location and found more opportunities to collaborate. During their residency they hosted regular open studios, inviting residents and local creatives to observe the collaborative process and contribute to a large-scale community drawing.

This lead to a performative element which emerged during the process of making a short film with Dr. Tim Butcher. Having had over 50 participants contribute to the 10m community drawing and the final collaboration with this object involved the landscape of Queenstown itself.

They took the 10m work to two locations, a slope alongside the iconic 99 bends of Gormanston Hill, and into Lake Burbury - an act necessary for this artwork to truly document Jeffries and Kennedy's experience in Queenstown.

The work was finally exhibited as an installation alongside the paintings created during this residency in the Q Bank studio.

🎶 We’re excited to welcome young North West Coast musician Shayla to perform at our upcoming exhibition opening featuring artists Jaikira Grundy and Paris Gregory!

Shayla performs a mix of heartfelt country music and stripped back versions of well-known songs, bringing warmth, storytelling and connection to every performance. Having performed at local events since she was a little girl, she loves the sense of togetherness music creates and the way storytelling can connect directly to the heart.

You are invited to the exhibition opening!
