🧵 HELP US GET OUR GUIDES SEWING! 🧵
We’re putting out a little call to our wonderful community! 💗
Our Girl Guides are hoping to start learning basic sewing skills, and we would love to get a sewing machine or 2 for our unit to use during Guide meetings and activities.
We’re looking for a basic, beginner-friendly machine — it absolutely does NOT need to be fancy or brand new! A second-hand machine in good working order would be amazing. 🪡
We want to use sewing as a way for our girls to learn practical, lifelong skills such as:
🧵 How to safely use a sewing machine
🪡 Basic sewing and mending
👗 Repairing clothing instead of throwing it away
♻️ Repurposing and upcycling old fabrics
🎨 Creating their own projects
💪 Building confidence and independence
🤝 Working together and teaching one another
🏅 Working towards Guide badges and challenges
We think there is something really special about a young person being able to look at something they have made and say “I made that myself!” ❤️
We’re hoping that our sewing machine can become a long-term resource for our Guides, allowing our current girls — and future generations of Guides — to learn a skill that they can carry with them for life.

We would love to hear from anyone who may have:
🧵 A sewing machine they no longer use
🪡 A suitable second-hand machine
✂️ Sewing supplies or fabric they would like to donate
💰 A small contribution towards purchasing a machine
🏪 A local business that may be interested in supporting our project
No donation is too small, and even sharing this post could help us reach the right person!
We would especially love to connect with any local sewing, craft or textile businesses who might be willing to support our girls.
As a local Girl Guides community, we want our girls to experience not only the skills they are learning, but also the amazing support that exists within our community. 💗
