HELP PROTECT WEST CAPE HOWE🌊

There are pending silica sand mining exploration applications covering an area very close to our beautiful and iconic West Cape Howe National Park, and nearby beaches, located between Albany and Denmark.

The pending exploration licenses cover parts of Marbelup, Elleker, Torbay, Bornholm and Kronkup. They include over 200 private properties that are mainly farmers and 28 reserves. These licenses would cover parts of Marbelup Brook, and the Albany groundwater area, a Public Drinking Water Source Area that feeds into a designated drinking water catchment, one of the most significant aquifers in this region.

A mining application near a pristine Western Australian national park is withdrawn following community opposition, with environmentalists now calling on the state government to block any future exploration applications in the area.

🌳PLEASE KEEP SIGNING! While it’s time to CELEBRATE, this is the first win of a larger fight to change the WA Mining Act to allow for an easier objection process and protection of biodiversity hotspots in WA from exploration and mining, whilst ensuring land holders are notified when applications go in.

Please stay tuned and keep signing the written petitions to be tabled in parliament next month!

We have a lot going on to stop this exploration so to break it all down here are some ways you can help:

1. Sign hard copy petition for parliament before June 8. DM for where you can find copies or ask us to email them straight to you 📝

2. Lodge a formal objection - video breakdown of how to do this is posted on the FB page. DM if you need more help or visit DEC the info session Monday @ 4.30pm 💻

3. Sign the change.org petition (link in bio) to increase pressure and awareness 📰

4. Write to the Minister Bill Johnson or your local MP and voice your concerns with mining exploration in Denmark 👨‍💼

If you oppose the mining exploration license being granted to the west of Denmark, the most effective campaign activity you could undertake is to submit an objection to the mining warden.
