This Reconciliation Week, Intereach staff have been out across our region attending events. This year's theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to step off the sidelines and commit to reconciliation every single day through actions that create meaningful change. At Intereach, that's exactly what we aim to do every day.
Members of our executive and leadership teams joined the Gathering on Country at the beautiful Dharnya Centre, alongside Robynne Nelson (Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung and Waywurru woman), Aunty Vicki Walker (Yorta Yorta woman) and SSD Connect Alliance's First Nations adviser for Loddon Mallee and Hume. The day began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Ralph Hume, a proud Yorta Yorta man, before moving into cultural competency sessions grounded in truth-telling and a holistic understanding of Elder wellbeing. Uncle Col Walker closed the afternoon sharing stories of growing up in Cummeragunja that stayed with everyone long after the day ended.
Members of our executive team also attended a flag-raising ceremony in Albury, joining the community to mark the week in a meaningful way.
Intereach is proud to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and communities across our region, and our Reconciliation Action Plan reflects our ongoing commitment to walking alongside First Nations peoples in a way that is genuine, respectful and grounded in listening.
