Outback Theatre for Young People

Outback Theatre for Young People 🧑 We create art with young people and communities in remote and regional NSW 🧑

OTYP began operating in 1989 out of the back of a ute and became a full time program of South West Arts in 1992. In the decade and a half since then Outback Theatre has engaged, educated and entertained countless young people and their communities across South West NSW.

🧑 We're honoured to be a tiny part of this heartening story from Wilcannia 🧑 Thanks to the Central School and St Therese's for having us 🀹🀸πŸŽͺ

Schools in the outback often struggle to maintain consistent attendance rates, but the Wilcannia community is going the extra mile to get kids into the classroom.

Our ongoing partnership with NAISDA Dance College is all about supporting the next generation of artists to work in regional and remote NSW. It's always so rewarding and inspiring to nurture these artists so early in their career. Here's an opportunity for you to join us.

Two young Indigenous artists are seeking support to train in the UK, an opportunity that will greatly enhance their skills and cultural expression. Your contribution can help them cover travel and accommodation costs, allowing them to grow as artists and bring valuable experiences back to their communities. Consider donating or sharing this cause to help them achieve their dreams.

🧑 We had an absolute blast working on "Hello Coonamble" with our dear friends at Outback Arts 🧑 It was a joy to create alongside the wonderful Drew, Alira and Lena, NAISDA Dance College Practicing Artists, The Tiddas Dancers from Coonamble High School, as well as the incredible Lily Shearer from Moogahlin Performing Arts 🧑 Working with Hannie Rayson and Michael Cathcart was a joy, and seeing the community of Coonamble share their stories on the stage of The Plaza in the Outback was nothing short of magic ✨

ABC Australia will share a story of this experience on Backroads during March - so keep an eye out! In the meantime, Hannie has written this article for the Sydney Morning Herald to share a sense of our time together in Coonamble.

Transcript of the article in the comments 🧑
