Today Australia pauses to remember and honour the men and women who served in the Vietnam War.

Almost 60,000 Australians served in Vietnam between 1962 and 1975. More than 3,000 were wounded, and 523 Australians lost their lives as a result of their service.

The 18th of August was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, when 105 men of Delta Company, 6RAR, fought a vastly larger Viet Cong and North Vietnamese force. Eighteen Australians were killed and 24 wounded.

Long Tan became a powerful symbol of the courage, mateship and sacrifice displayed by Australians throughout the Vietnam War.

We will be holding a short service at the Vietnam Veteran memorial near the cenotaph at 11am today for anyone that would like to join us.

The Deniliquin RSL Sub-Branch invites members and the community to join us in commemorating Vietnam Veterans Day as we honour the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Vietnam War.

A service will be held at the Vietnam Memorial at the Deniliquin Cenotaph at 11am.

This year, we welcome veterans of the 86 Transport Platoon Vietnam, who, together with their partners, will be commemorating Vietnam Veterans Day with us in Deniliquin.

Following the service at the Cenotaph, everyone is invited to attend a luncheon at the Deniliquin RSL Club Bistro at 12:30 pm.

The two-course meal is $30, payable on entry, please book with the club for catering purposes no later Tuesday 11th.

Join us as we remember the courage, mateship, and service of Australia's Vietnam veterans.

Lest We Forget.

We will be remembering all Vietnam Veterans later in the Month on Tuesday 18th with a service at the cenotaph followed by luncheon at the RSL Club.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details next week.

Today, we commemorate the arrival of the first Australians to serve in the Vietnam War.

On 3 August 1962, the first members of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) arrived in South Vietnam, marking the beginning of Australia's military involvement in the conflict. Initially comprising just 30 highly experienced military advisers, "The Team" was tasked with training and advising South Vietnamese forces.

What began as a small advisory mission would grow into more than a decade of service. Between 1962 and 1973, around 60,000 Australians served in Vietnam. Of those, 523 lost their lives and almost 2,400 were wounded.

Today, we honour the courage, professionalism and sacrifice of all who served in Vietnam, and acknowledge the lasting impact of the war on veterans, their families and all those affected.

Lest we forget.

We had a fantastic surprise last week.

A group of Year 9 Deniliquin High School (Official) students, visited the Club to present the sub-branch with a generous donation.

The students raised the money selling ANZAC biscuits in the lead up to ANZAC day.

A big thank you to the students and their teacher for your generosity and support. The money will be used to support local veterans and their families.

It's never too late.

Today we had the honour to present our eldest veteran, with 2 medals earned during his service over 80 years ago.
Byron Goodsell, noticed that 102 year old Russell Eames was short a couple of medals when chatting to him on ANZAC Day last year.
After a lot of work, today he got to present Russell with his missing medals; the 1939-1945 Star, and the Australian Service Medal 1945-1975 w/ SW Pacific Clasp.

Bravo Zulu.
