⚠️⛈️💨 SEVERE STORMS, TORNADO RISK

Thunderstorms are possible across most of NSW today (21st December) other than in far northeast, due to a cold front and accompanying upper trough crossing the state from the west.
Severe thunderstorms are possible across the southern, central and western parts of the state, west of a line running from Hungerford to Wollongong. These severe thunderstorms may bring heavy rain leading to flash flooding, damaging wind gusts (>90km/h) and large hail (>2cm). Within this area, severe thunderstorms are likely for the far west, southern inland and southern ranges.
In addition, for the southern inland, southern slopes and the Alpine area, thunderstorm organisation may lead to Very Dangerous Storms bringing locally intense rainfall leading to flash flooding, tornadoes and destructive winds (>125km/h) in addition to large hail. Any tornado or destructive wind activity is likely to be short lived.
Thunderstorms are likely for the Sydney metropolitan area in the late morning or afternoon but are not expected to be severe, bringing gusty winds of 60-70km/h.
Thunderstorm activity has already begun in the far west with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning current.
Thunderstorm activity will gradually move east over the course of the day as the cold front moves east.
By the late evening thunderstorm activity is likely to have cleared from the coast, the far southwest and southern inland but may continue overnight on the southern ranges, central inland and far northwest.
