The Delegate sub-Branch Delegation has arrived in Tamworth. We wended our way through rural NSW, admiring the many lovely war memorials on the way. They graphically illustrate how such communities valued and value their service personnel.

The real work starts tomorrow, including showing the RSL's opposition to the proposed sale of Victoria Barracks.

All over Tamworth, delegates will be getting medals out, shining shoes, ironing shirts and gearing up for some camaraderie and service.

We (Dermot and Hon Secretary Dr Pip Ryan) are on our way to the RSL NSW 2026 State Congress in Tamworth. Dermot is the delegate and Pip is an official observer.

We drove from Delegate to Cowra today, via Boorowa, on to Tamworth tomorrow. Friday is the first day of the Congress, and a pretty busy one too, with a District Presidents' Council meeting and a DPC-Board meeting to follow - and that's all before the opening ceremony at 1400.

Looking forward to catching up with the other delegates from our District, the Monaro & Far South Coast, including RSL NSW Bega Sub Branch, Merimbula RSL Sub Branch, Cooma Monaro RSL Sub Branch, Narooma R.S.L, Cobargo and Bombala. The RSL exists to serve Veterans and that's what Congress is all about. We were reminded, as we pass through these small towns of the huge sacrifices they made for our country.

Remembrance Day, Tuesday 11 November 2025.🌺

11 November marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.

Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today.

The RSL NSW's "Draw to Remember" is a wonderful initiative, which enables our local youngsters to learn about Remembrance Day in a constructive and creative way. The emphasis is two-fold; remembering and honouring those who served and gave all for Australia, and looking to the future with ideals of tolerance, empathy and a dedication to solving international problems other than by war.

The children now have their booklet to read and digest, following which they will discuss their ideas for their remembrance artwork with their teachers, draw their ideas, then translate those drawings into large murals on the playground.

The drawings will be on display in our RSL Hall on Remembrance Day.

The Delegate Remembrance Day service will commence at 10:45 (gather at 10:40) on Wednesday 11 November 2026, at the Cenotaph in Bombala Street.

There will be morning tea served in the RSL Hall following the service. All welcome.

RSL NSW invites veterans, their families and the wider community to attend a Star Ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the commencement of Operation Slipper.

Operation Slipper saw Australian Defence Force personnel serve in Afghanistan and the broader region for more than a decade, as part of one of Australia’s longest-running international armed conflicts. The commemoration will honour those who served and sacrificed, and provide an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact of their contribution.

The Star Ceremony will be held on Sunday 11 October 2026 at the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park, Sydney, commencing at 10.20am.

Veterans and their families, RSL NSW sub-Branches and members, ex-service organisations and members of the public are invited to attend, with Afghanistan veterans particularly encouraged to join the commemoration.

The ceremony will feature an address by RSL NSW CEO Mick Frewen, who deployed as part of Operation Slipper, and will be supported by the Australian Army. Distinguished guests are expected to include the Governor of New South Wales, Members of Parliament and senior representatives of the Australian Defence Force.

In a unique tribute, commemorative stars will be released into the Well of Contemplation in place of traditional wreath laying.
