The stain glassed windows in St James church at Delamere feature St James Major, Jesus Christ, and St John, and St James Major. In 1889, young Archie Grundy unveiled the St James Major window to the memory of his mother Rosalie Grundy, who died giving birth to him.
The Friends of St James have contacted Mr Ken Grundy of Naracoorte who has sent an extract written by Archdeacon Morse and published in 'The Southern Churchman' in March 1888. Arch or Archie was the first cousin to Ken's father.
'It hath pleased God again to visit this parish and remove from amongst us one whom to know was to love, one who was loved by all...Rosalie Grundy (nee Lord) lived in the parish from her earliest childhood. Brought up, as it were, under the shadow of the church of St James which she dearly loved, she was always glad and willing to help in church work, either as an organist or in any way. She will be greatly missed.'
Archdeacon Morse said she had 'the satisfaction of seeing her week old infant baptised before she died' and he acknowledged 'the bereaved husband, who by his consistent and straight forward conduct has earned him [his neighbours'] esteem and respect'.

The most frequent question coming in is, "What's happening with the Cemetery?"

The Burial and Cremation Act 2013, Div 2 Sec 24 (1b) states - "The relevant authority (owner or formal delegate [Author]) may close the cemetery or natural burial ground ONLY IF, fifty (50) or more years have elapsed since human remains were last interred in the cemetery or natural burial ground."

Recent burials, respectfully, have occurred in the last two decades since the year 2000.

(Also as at April 2026, three (3) Grave Sites are reserved and seventeen (17) Grave Sites are recorded available).

In an act of sheer spite and disassociation from 'their own Community'... a community reaching out to nurture and save them from their own unhappiness and apathy.... they took the Bell (with its NEWLY obtained 'Monkey Fist' bell-ringer purchased by the community)... to somewhere unknown.

Perhaps a small thing in the bigger & sadder picture; but so emblematic of some peoples resolve to 'tear down' to appease their own unhappiness; rather than be 'lifted up'.

Formal Investigations are underway to ascertain what has tragically happened to the priceless 'Baptismal Font' that was donated to St James Anglican Church from the United Kingdom and later supplemented with an ornate custom-made wooden cover by further generous donation.
The Font is documented as being more than 300 years old and dates from heritage placement in it's original UK church of construct, back to the Saxon era.

(Misleading advice that it has been donated to a prominent private Adelaide Boys School has been found to be false.)

Friends of St James are fully aligned with HERITAGE TRUST SA and the heritage listing of St James Anglican Church (with title-adjoining Cemetery) at Main South Road, Delamere.
A high level of vigilence is being observed to protect this iconic listing, first built on donated land by the local pioneer community, with self funded ageless materials and dedicated labour. More news to follow.
