Dear AusTurtle members,

We warmly invite you to attend the 2026 AusTurtle Annual General Meeting, which will be held on 26 March 2026 at the Charles Darwin University Danala (Darwin CBD) Campus, with an option to join online via Zoom. The room number and Zoom link are included in the attached AGM Notice.

As part of this year’s AGM, members will consider a Special Resolution to update the Constitution. The proposed change relates to clause 58(3) and is included in the attached schedule, with the new text clearly highlighted for your review.

If you are unable to attend in person or online, you may use the attached optional proxy form if you would like someone to vote on your behalf. This is entirely voluntary and only for members who wish to appoint a proxy.

If you would like to renew your membership, you can do so at any time via our website: www.austurtle.org. Memberships can also be renewed at the AGM venue, where both card and cash payments will be accepted.

We also want to highlight that joining the Management Committee is just one way to contribute to AusTurtle. We currently have vacant research camp positions, which can be booked online at www.austurtle.org. We are also seeking people—especially those based in Darwin—who may be interested in helping with social media, community engagement, logistics, or preparations. If this sounds like you, please contact us at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM and continuing our shared work in sea turtle conservation.

Warm regards,

AusTurtle Inc.

📸 Calling All Bare Sand Island Turtle Watchers! 🐢

Have you snapped any close-up photos of flatback hatchlings at Bare Sand Island—especially ones showing their eyes?

We’re building a visual dataset to document eye colour variation in Flatback (Natator depressus) hatchlings, and we’d love your help. If you’ve got clear shots of hatchling faces (left or right side), please send them our way!.

This is part of an effort to explore whether eye colour (blue or green) might be linked to incubation temperature, and your photos could help fill a major gap in the science.

👉 Please DM or email your images to
[email protected], along with the date if available.

Shoutout to Caitlin Clarke, who volunteered with us on Bare Sand Island in 2024, and has since taken her turtle passion global—spending three months working on Leatherback research and conservation in Costa Rica! 🐢🇨🇷. We’re proud to see our Bare Sand Island alumni continuing to protect sea turtles. -Keep up the great work! 💚

"Every little bit of conservation helps. Every piece of plastic picked up from the beach, every turtle egg saves, every single-use items swapped out for re-usable - it makes a difference

**Sea turtles were observed by trained personnel and under research permits approved by the Costa Rican government**"
