Are we bringing back Throwback Thursdays? Because we are 😌
In case you missed it, we launched the Borroloola laundry back in November last year.

Since then, it’s been making a meaningful impact. Supporting improved health outcomes, creating local employment, and providing access to an essential service for the community.

It’s a great reminder that something simple can go a long way 🫧

It’s easy to think of a laundry as something simple. For many communities, access to a safe, working laundry can make a real difference.
From improving health outcomes to creating local employment and supporting dignity, the impact reaches far beyond the wash cycle.

Hear directly from Mabunji ARIC Chairperson, Annie Roberts, who experiences this impact every day in Borroloola. 🤍

A few moments from our recent trip to Groote Eylandt 🧡
The days were spent training, having laughs, and making sure laundries were stocked, running and ready.
There’s always a bit of the unexpected too… including a surprise visitor in Milyakburra 🐍
It’s meaningful work, but it’s also about connection and time spent with those on the ground.
We’re already looking forward to the next trip.

Do you know what today is?
It’s National Laundry Day 🧺🫧

So, what better way to celebrate than with a little laundry tour?
While it may seem like a simple service, access to a working laundry can make a real difference. Supporting better health, creating local jobs, and strengthening communities.

Today, we’re celebrating the power of something simple… and the impact it can have every single day 🤍

At AIG, health starts with the basics.
Access to clean clothes and bedding plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of infections and supporting wellbeing, especially in remote communities.
Our Remote Laundries provide a safe, accessible place where families can wash what they need, for free.
They create local employment and spaces for connection within community.
We’ve seen the impact. In Barunga, scabies were reduced by 60%, with no new recorded cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease.
Simple, practical solutions led by community can make a real difference. ❤️

1,680 cycles in just four months 🫶
Since opening in Borroloola, the laundry has already supported over 1,680 washes for community members.
Each cycle is a simple but important part of everyday life. Supporting health, dignity, and access to something many of us take for granted.

We’re proud to see the laundry being used and shaped by the Borroloola community, and we look forward to seeing this impact continue to grow.

Today is Close the Gap Day.
It’s a moment to intentionally reflect, to listen, and to recognise the importance of working together to improve health, wellbeing and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our Remote Laundries Project contributes to 13 of the 17 Close the Gap targets, supporting health, wellbeing and access to essential services.

At AIG, we’re proud to be a part of community-led initiatives that make a real difference.
Together, we are working towards a more equitable future.

The Aboriginal Investment Group continues to grow our Remote Laundries Project, supporting everyday health, dignity and local employment for communities across the Northern Territory.

This next stage is supported through a partnership with the Barossa Aboriginal Future Fund (BAFF) and the Santos Foundation, enabling the delivery of two new laundries in Wurrumiyanga and Yarrawonga, and the ongoing operation of our existing laundry in Casuarina!

Remote Laundries remain Aboriginal-led and community-driven, shaped by local priorities and strong relationships. We look forward to continuing this important work alongside the communities we serve.
