This Men's Health Week, we're recognising the many factors that contribute to men's health and wellbeing, including safety, connection and access to support.

Experiences of sexual violence can have significant and long-lasting impacts on physical health, mental health and wellbeing. As we reflect on men's health, it is important to acknowledge that men's experiences of sexual violence warrant recognition within these broader conversations.

In Australia, approximately 1 in 16 men have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15. However, societal expectations and stigma surrounding masculinity can contribute to silence, underreporting and delayed engagement with support services.

Acknowledging men's experiences and ensuring access to safe, respectful and trauma-informed support are important steps in promoting recovery, wellbeing and connection.

If you or someone you know needs support, there are services available for men:

MensLine Australia โ€“ 1300 78 99 78

Beyond Blue โ€“ 1300 22 4636

This Men's Health Week, we acknowledge all men affected by sexual violence and the importance of ensuring they are recognised in conversations about safety, health and support.

๐ŸŒฟ Mabo Day โ€“ 3 June ๐ŸŒฟ

Today we honour Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander man whose fight for justice changed Australiaโ€™s history.

The 1992 High Court decision in Mabo v Queensland (No 2) recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoplesโ€™ ongoing connection to Country and overturned the doctrine of terra nullius. It laid the foundation for native title and continues to shape truth-telling and reconciliation in Australia today.

At DCASV we acknowledge Eddie's legacy and the enduring strength of all First Nations peoples and their deep connection to Country. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ
