Some young people don’t need a lecture.
They need someone to walk alongside them ❤️
For the first time, The Salvation Army has launched a dedicated Youth Services team in the Northern Territory, supporting young people aged 14 to 24 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
From Garamilla (Darwin) to Katherine and Mparntwe (Alice Springs), the team has been out in the community since March, building trust through outreach, connection and practical support.
“Our Street to Home program supports young people at-risk of, or experiencing, rough sleeping, within a young person-centred, trauma-informed case management approach,” said NT State Manager Felicity Pearson.
“We’re filling a critical service gap that existed by providing immediate crisis support and intervention.”
The team is supporting young people facing unstable housing, couch surfing, and difficult family situations, helping connect them with the wraparound support they need to move toward independence.
“We think of it as getting them back up on their feet, and walking with the young person for a time until they are confident to keep going on their journey toward independence.”
Behind the program is a passionate local team bringing lived experience, compassion and deep community connection into every conversation.
“The Salvation Army shows great heart and courage in the youth space,” Felicity said.
And this is only the beginning.
