This morning was all things NRL at Darwin Salvation Army Corps. The Redcliffe Dolphins joined us for the 3rd time to cook a hot breakfast for our community; while encouraging our volunteers and connecting through the work we do in the Darwin community. Thank you to Shane and the team for joining Major Kim Hawke and the Darwin Salvation Army team in lifting the spirits of those in need.

We have been a part of the teams looking after the evacuation centers here in Darwin since the floods began in Katherine. It feels as though we had just closed up after the Daly River floods had subsided before having to stand up and re-open. Over the weekend, Hon Steve Edgington MLA and Mr Brian O'Gallagher MLA visited one of our centers and spent time with our team members looking after those who've been displaced again.

Thank you Major Kaye Viney and Major Kim Hawke for leading our efforts in caring for those in need and thank you to our team for being a part of something so important.

Having visited The Waterhole in Alice Springs, we are so grateful for Majors Tim & Claire Watson and for the ministry they provide. Also, we thank Ann for her leadership in running the Waterhole with the help she receives from Minnie and Netty. Such a beautiful space for all communities to come together and connect.

As we all focus on staying safe and secure in the face of cyclone Fina, we’re doing all we can to stay in touch with everyone.

The below is from Major Kim Hawke at Darwin Salvation Army, advising that tomorrow’s church service is cancelled. We all know how hazardous it is to go outside now, so please look after one another, and know that all our prayers are with you all.

Stay safe please.

The Salvation Army Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal has launched in the NT!!
It all started last Thursday morning at Kmart Coolalinga where the NT's Deputy Chief Minister, Hon Gerard Maley, Mr Andrew Mackay (Member for Goyder), Mr Glenn Butkus (Kmart State Operations Manager WA/NT/SA), and Ms Alex Smith (Kmart Head of Corporate Affairs & Community).
Later that same day, Kmart Casuarina Square was launched by Zane Whyte (Kmart Casuarina Store Manager) and Major Kim Hawke (C.O. Darwin Salvation Army Corps).
And finally on Friday, Kmart Katherine launched their Wishing Tree with the Hon Jo Hersey-Member for Katherine.
A huge thank you to all the staff and members for support what has been a partnership between Kmart and The Salvation Army for 38 years. We are blessed to have so many people looking out for those who would otherwise go without at Christmas time.

Yesterday, Darwin Corps' service was run the Junior Soldiers on this years Junior Soldier Renewal Sunday. Lead by Hannah Burgan, with our guest, SA/NT Divisions Childrens Secretary Deb Elliott, the Junior Soldiers renewed their promises to God, and demonstrated how far they've come on their spiritual journey.
Under the corps flag held by proud grandfather Karl Adams-Brown, we also enrolled 3 new Junior Soldiers. Welcome Willow, Bri and Zara to the junior soldier ranks of the Darwin Corps. Your presence has already been a blessing to us all and we pray, as we pray for all our Junior Soldiers, for God to speak clearly to you as you follow in His footsteps.
Let us all continue to keep our youth in our prayers as they grow in Christ.

Post 3 of 3...
Yesterday we all ventured to Wally's Strip at Katherine, inside the hangar where the NT Flying Padres fly out of.
Once again Major Paul Hateley opened the celebrations and then handed over to Majors Michelle & Niall Gibson to lead us in celebration which included the cutting of the Flying Padres birthday cake.
We also had beautiful words from Hon Jo Hersey-Member for Katherine.
And I want to make mention of the incredible support we had all weekend from Karl and Sheldron Adams-Brown from the NT Red Shield Defence Services. They were all events providing refreshments for all guests.
Here at the Katherine event, we were so grateful for Aux-Lieutenant Anthony Barford for his catering with the State Emergency Services team.
