We were lucky enough to spend the morning at the Darwin Aquaculture Centre as the Fisheries NT team showcased all of the hard work that's gone into the CRCNA and Northern Territory Government funded, Blacklip Rock Oyster Project.

Thanks to Thamarrurr Development Corporation Sea Farmers for the freshly caught mud crab lunch!

How lucky we are to have been able to support Thamarrurr Development Corporation and the Sea Farmers team in Wadeye to get their first mud crabs to market 🦀

Today was a very special day and with a bit of luck we'll have more Wadeye mud crabs in the Darwin Fish Market next week!

It's been a big year down at the Roper! 🦀

The first crab pots have hit the water in Wadeye! Well done Thamarrurr Development Corporation on all the work the team have put into turning an idea into an operation that now has crabs in pots!

There’s only one remote community running a commercial mud crab operation in the Northern Territory — and Wadeye, you’re it!

This is a truck full of gear leaving Darwin and heading out to Wadeye and it's the final piece of the puzzle before they get started.

This is what self determination, economic empowerment, employment pathways and job opportunites actually look like for our remote communities.

We see these words on paper all the time. But seeing them put into practice? That's where the party's at!

Thanks for having us Gunbalanya!

We were happy to have had the chance to speak with Northern Land Council West Arnhem Regional Council members this morning.

We've got lots of exciting things happening at the
moment which we'll be sharing over the next couple of weeks.

And the best part? Everything we're working on at the moment is for community, led by community with outcomes being seen in community.

The smile on a student's face when they feel accomplished through their learning is a KPI that makes sense for anyone in the education space to have.

There are only winners when children are achieving, and the Learning on Country program is delivering wins for Indigenous students across 14 remote communities in the Northern Territory.

The program is working. Students are engaged, outcomes are being achieved and the proof of how successful this approach is can be seen in the proud smiles of students who are kicking goals.

The aims of the program are achievable, the key principles are clear, and the values make sense. But the program would not be where it is today without the people who deliver it, believe in it, and show up every day to make sure students have the opportunities they deserve.

We felt lucky to be part of the conversation at the inaugural Learning on Country Northern Australia Summit 2025 ~ thank you to the Northern Land Council for having us and we look forward to what the future holds for the program

You can’t sit in an office in Darwin and come up with a plan that works for community. It doesn’t work like that. Real solutions have to be shaped by the people who live there, who know the country, the challenges, and the community.

This week we've been lucky to spend time with Greg and Theo, sharing the skills and knowledge we’ve gained over the past few years as the team in Wadeye prepare to officially launch their very own commercial mud crabbing operation.

Wadeye represents a major milestone for us, it’s the first 100% community led and operated commercial fishing operation we’ve supported from the time it was an idea right though to the first boat launching in the water.

Thank you to Thamarrurr Development Corporation for partnering with us. We've never been more committed to breaking down the barriers that too often stand in the way of economic independence in remote communities.
