We are proud to share that the 5th International Conference on the Hellenic Diaspora will take place in 2026, continuing an important academic and cultural collaboration between Charles Darwin University, the University of the Aegean, and the University of Macedonia.

Since 2007, this partnership has supported the teaching of Greek language and culture, strengthened cross academic collaboration, and promoted research on Hellenism in the Diaspora.

The conference will bring together academics and researchers from around the world, both in person and online, across three locations: Darwin, Rhodes, and Thessaloniki.

The opening keynote address in Darwin will be delivered by historian and writer Dr Peter Forrest on the topic: “What did they come to?”

This important conference continues to promote the Northern Territory internationally, while celebrating the unique contribution of Greek language, culture, education, history, and community life across the Diaspora.

Our reception at Parliament House was a meaningful moment for HACCI NT.
We are here because of the generations before us who shaped the Greek story in the Territory, and we carry that responsibility with humility.
Thank you to all who joined us and shared in the conversations that continue to guide our work.
Our thanks to the Office of the Chief Minister for generously hosting us, to Minister Charls for being such a thoughtful host, and to Khoda Patel MLA for supporting the evening as MC.

The HACCI community is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our Honorary Member, Mr John Halikos.

John was highly respected business leader, philanthropist and community figure whose generosity, integrity and commitment to helping others made a lasting impact.

While he achieved much in business and in service to community, he will be remembered the most for the kindness and humility with which he supported so many.

On behalf of HACCI National Federation, our HACCI NT committee and members, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

May his memory be eternal

With deep sadness, the Greek Orthodox Community of Northern Australia announces the passing of Ioannis (John) Halikos (66), in Darwin.

Today, our hearts are heavy. The news of Ioannis’ passing has touched not only his loving family and close friends, the Greek and Cypriot communities, but also the wider Darwin community, the people of Kalymnos, and the entire Kalymnian community in Darwin and across Australia.

Ioannis (John) passed in the early hours of this morning, with his family by his side. While many knew him for his strong business spirit and achievements, those closest to him knew something even greater, his unwavering devotion to his roots and his deep love for his homeland.

Throughout his life, he quietly and consistently gave back. He stood beside our community through sponsorships and donations, offering real support where it was needed most, helping schools and families, supporting vulnerable people, and contributing to projects that improved everyday life.

Ioannis (John) Halikos leaves behind a legacy defined by service, compassion, and love for his people. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, in Darwin, and by all who had the privilege to know him.

On behalf of our Community, we offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May God grant him rest, and may his memory remain a blessing to all.

Καλό Παράδεισο!
