Dokładnie rok temu odbył się start misji Ax-4 z Polakiem Sławoszem Uznańskim-Wiśniewskim na Międzynarodową Stację Kosmiczną (ISS). W ramach polskiej misji IGNIS na orbicie zostało przeprowadzonych 13 eksperymentów, które dotyczyły m.in. medycyny, biologii, biotechnologii i nauk inżynierskich.

Astronauta zabrał ze sobą na ISS m.in. polskie flagi, w tym naszywkę ze skafandra Mirosława Hermaszewskiego, pamiątki po Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie, mapę z dzieła Mikołaja Kopernika „De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” ("O obrotach sfer niebieskich"), bryłkę soli z Wieliczki i kawałek polskiego bursztynu. Na orbitę poleciały też manuskrypt mazurka Fryderyka Chopina, trzy wiersze Wisławy Szymborskiej, krajka z regionalnego stroju ziemi łódzkiej z Muzeum Etnograficznego w Warszawie, polskie litery (ą, ć, ę, ł itd.) wydrukowane w 3 D oraz emblematy i plakat misji.

Exactly one year ago, the Ax-4 mission, carrying Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, launched to the International Space Station (ISS). As part of the Polish IGNIS mission, 13 experiments were conducted in orbit, covering topics including medicine, biology, biotechnology, and engineering.

The astronaut took with him to the ISS, among other things, Polish flags, including a patch from Mirosław Hermaszewski's spacesuit, memorabilia from Maria Skłodowska-Curie, a map from Nicolaus Copernicus's "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" ("On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres"), a lump of salt from Wieliczka, and a piece of Polish amber. Also sent into orbit were a manuscript of a mazurka by Fryderyk Chopin, three poems by Wisława Szymborska, a selvedge from the regional costume of the Łódź region from the Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, Polish letters (ą, ć, ę, ł, etc.) printed in 3D, as well as emblems and a poster of the mission.

Saint John Paul II, the Pope who reminded the world of human dignity and the strength of faith, was born on 18th May, 1920. Saint John Paul II is remembered for his spiritual and political role in the collapse of communism in Central and Eastern Europe. The impact that his words and courage brought to Poland during his 1979 pilgrimage eventually spread to various nations throughout the whole world. His words, “Do not be afraid,” still inspire courage today.

Święty Jan Paweł II, papież, który przypomniał światu o godności człowieka i sile wiary, urodził się 18 maja 1920 roku. Święty Jan Paweł II jest pamiętany ze względu na swoją duchową i polityczną rolę w upadku komunizmu w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej. Yesterday, 3rd May, Poland and Poles abroad celebrated the 235th Anniversary of Constitution Day (Święto Konstytucji 3 Maja), commemorating Europe’s first modern constitution adopted in 1791. A proud moment in our national story.

In Polish tradition, May is a special month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Churches and roadside shrines come alive with May devotions and the Litany of Loreto. It’s a beautiful season of prayer, community, and gratitude for springtime. May this month bring peace and renewed hope to everyone.

W tym roku obchodzimy 235. rocznicę uchwalenia Konstytucji 3 Maja. Uchwalona w 1791 r. była pierwszą w Europie i drugą na świecie, po konstytucji Stanów Zjednoczonych, spisaną ustawą zasadniczą, która regulowała zasady funkcjonowania państwa oraz określała prawa i obowiązki obywateli.

Twórcami Konstytucji byli król Stanisław August Poniatowski, Ignacy Potocki – przywódca Stronnictwa Patriotycznego, ksiądz biskup Hugo Kołłątaj oraz marszałek Sejmu Czteroletniego Stanisław Małachowski.

Maj w polskiej tradycji to miesiąc szczególnie poświęcony Matce Bożej. W kościołach i przy przydrożnych kapliczkach rozbrzmiewają nabożeństwa majowe i Litania Loretańska. To piękny czas modlitwy, wspólnoty i wdzięczności za wiosnę. Niech maj przyniesie wszystkim spokój i nadzieję.

We honour the memory of Polish clergy and laypeople whose dedication to education, culture and community has left a lasting impact around the world. Through their work in schools, parishes and cultural institutions, they nurtured language, heritage and identity across generations. Their commitment helped sustain Polish traditions far from the homeland, strengthening communities in times of both challenge and change. Today, their legacy lives on in vibrant Polish organisations, events and shared values. We remember them with gratitude and respect, acknowledging their enduring contribution to the global Polish story and cultural heritage. In particular, we remember the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth who, in the 1960’s, taught many of our children Polish within the very walls of our club.

Oddajemy hołd pamięci polskich duchownych i świeckich, którzy poprzez swoje zaangażowanie w edukację, kulturę i życie społeczne pozostawili trwały ślad na całym świecie. Działając w szkołach, parafiach i instytucjach kulturalnych, pielęgnowali język, tradycję i tożsamość narodową kolejnych pokoleń. Ich wysiłek pozwolił zachować polskie dziedzictwo z dala od ojczyzny, wzmacniając wspólnoty w trudnych i zmieniających się czasach. Dziś ich dorobek żyje w aktywnych organizacjach, wydarzeniach i wspólnych wartościach. Wspominamy ich z wdzięcznością i głębokim szacunkiem. W szczególny sposób pamiętamy Siostry świętej rodziny z Nazaretu, które w latach 60-tych uczyły naszych dzieci w salach naszego klubu.
