This month we have been practicing quiet leadership, with our clapsticks.
A different rhythm set for a different person.
Today we celebrated loved ones in the dreaming by setting one for them too.

Becoming an elder is NOT your birthright
An Elder is revealed in the quiet work...
in forgiveness when harm would be easier,
In compassion when judgment would be simpler,
in wisdom shared freely, without expectation.
An Elder stands beside you when your spirit is tired,
when your legs feel too weak to carry your story forward.
They see the spark inside your soul — sometimes before you do —
and they hold the line until you remember your own strength.
They guide without seeking recognition.
They give without asking for payment.
They carry responsibility, not status.
I have not known the gentle guidance of a mother or father…
but through the love, patience and cultural authority of these people,
I know what it feels like to be held in spirit.
And that tells me something powerful:
Eldership is not about age.
It is about how many people rise because you walked beside them
