This is what happens when you give a group of shedders a problem to solve! ๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

The Lorne and District Men's Shed has been locked in a battle of wits with the town's clever sulphur-crested cockatoos for years. The birds had mastered the art of flipping bin lids and scattering rubbish across the seaside town, defeating every solution thrown at them.

Until now. After years of experimentation, Lorne & District Men's Shed founder Allan Walls and the team have come up with a deceptively simple invention, a bin apron that fits over the lid and stops the cockies from getting enough grip to pry it open. With 500 now being rolled out across Lorne, the early results are promising.

A brilliant example of practical thinking, community spirit and good old shed ingenuity at work. Well done to the shedders at Lorne Men's Shed! ๐Ÿ‘

Victoriaโ€™s menโ€™s sheds deliver enormous health benefits and a huge social contribution to members and communities across the state.

Menโ€™s sheds have received the same amount of funding since 2012 but our network has tripled in size. Menโ€™s sheds are underfunded and under-resourced.

Menโ€™s sheds are calling for an increase in State Government funding from $1m to $3m per annum from 2027/28 with ongoing indexation.

This month we are celebrating 20 years of the Donald Men's Shed, an incredible Coat of Arms project from Heathcote Men's Shed, student designed games tables from Bacchus Marsh Men's Shed at the Laurels, and plenty more great stories from shedders right across Victoria.

Plus the Bendigo Roadshow wrap up, the upcoming South East Metro Roadshow in Berwick on 19 June, and all the latest VMSA news.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Attention shedders! The 2026 Victorian Seniors Festival is on its way!

This year's theme is Connect, Create, Celebrate and there has never been a better time to open your shed doors and show your community what you are all about. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

You can list your shed event on the official festival calendar for free, and Seniors Card holders will enjoy nine days of free public transport across Victoria from 3 to 11 October making it easier than ever for people to get to your event.

A few key dates to keep in mind:

Congratulations to the Bonney Energy Community Award winners from our Bendigo Roadshow! ๐Ÿ†

The Gisborne Men's Shed was recognised for their outstanding Young Shedmen program, supporting local teenage boys at risk of disengaging from school or family life since 2016. An incredible initiative that is making a real difference in the lives of young people in the community.

The Rochester Men's Shed was recognised for their remarkable resilience and community contribution following the devastating 2022 floods, and for the way they have gone from strength to strength ever since.

Two very deserving winners and a big thank you to Bonney Energy Victoria for their continued support of the men's shed community across Victoria. ๐Ÿ‘

What a day in Bendigo! ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

VMSA Regional Roadshow at the Bendigo Greyhounds Racing Club was our biggest yet, with 140 shedders from 37 sheds across Central Victoria coming together for a fantastic day of connection and conversation.
