Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s town meeting at the Club to discuss the future of the Dandaragan Store & Post Office.

A big thank you also to the Dandaragan Club committee for providing bar staff, hot dogs and chips for everyone. It was very much appreciated 🙏

There was unanimous support for keeping the current store and postal services in Dandaragan.

The community is still considering two options:

Option 1: Purchase the whole property package — house, shop and land.

Option 2: Purchase the proposed subdivision — the current shop on its own 1,000 m² block.

As there is not yet a firm valuation for Option 2, the meeting could not make a final decision last night.

The Cooperative Steering Committee will reconvene as soon as the shop owner has obtained a valuation for the proposed subdivision. This will allow the community to make an informed, final decision.

Shire of Dandaragan Vermin Eradication in Dandaragan

Shire of Dandaragan Authorised Officers will be undertaking a wild rabbit cull in Dandaragan this evening Monday 12 October 2026 and Tuesday morning. Please obey signage in the area and stay clear. Officers will be using low calibre am******on to reduce noise impacts from the program.

The shooting is being carried out in conjunction with other pest reduction methods throughout the year. Contact Ranger Services on 0428 114 221 if you need more information.

The Shire has received an application to use and/or develop land for the following purpose and public comments are invited.

Address: Lot 3508 (Corner of Dandaragan Road & Gillingara Road), Yathroo

Proposal: Use Not Listed – Workforce Accommodation

Description: The project will accommodate up to 450 workers needed for the construction of the Marri wind farm. Development will include accommodation units, ablution and laundry facilities, dining and catering facilities, recreation areas, parking areas, and associated power, water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure. Approval is sought for a five-year period.

Description: The application proposes the construction and operation of a Renewable Energy Facility comprising 27 wind turbines and supporting infrastructure. The existing Cooljarloo (Tronox) mine is also located on the subject site.

COMMUNITY UPDATE – CATABY POWER STATION

Alinta Energy has released an October update on the proposed 500 MW gas-fired power station.

Public comments close 3 November 2026. A community benefit-sharing program is also planned.
